Default Hitman Absolution "isnt part of the Hitman Series timeline"? Wut?

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/01/18...meline-either/

Apparently this game doesn't take place after the events of blood money, and it's not a prequel, but it's also "not" a reboot...

The more I hear about this game, the more pessimistic I become.. A commenter brings up a compelling point about why Hitman's plot is pretty stupid:

Quote:
RANT INCOMING

That doesn't make ANY sense. So apparently, 47 has no problems killing Diana, as he is so "professional", but then, takes on a personal mission requested by, guess who, Diana. What? If Blood money isn't part of the continuity, then still, why wouldn't 47 just listen to her for once in his life? Are they really throwing away the best relationship and established continuity this series have ever had so easily? And for what? He obviously has feelings for her, and I don't understand why he would just outright kill her. That's a very cheap way to move the plot and the characters forward, and doubly so if they are doing it to give 47 the old bad guy who ain't playing by the rules no more. From what the developers said, there is no real depth as to why he's gone rogue other than giving mindless gamers what they want. Action.

It makes the rest of the game completely one note in terms of character development, much like Splinter Cell Conviction. Even if there are certain things we don't know yet, the "absolution" 47 is seeking shouldn't be because of the killing Diana or anything else they've cooked up away form continuity. It would have little to do with Victoria. It wouldn't no matter how hard they try to connect her with 47. It's another cheap plot device commonly used in horrible action movie of the month brigade.More and more this story is seeming to be a traditional thriller with a main character who has no real depth other than the fact that he's a cold emotionless SOB who is all angsty about his past. 47 never was. Indeed he was professional, but had a character. And with the introduction in Blood Money, in a relationship that questioned his very terms of professionalism with Diana, you had something worth it's weight in gold for this game.

I don't care what this story is these raccoons came up with, that is a very big loss of opportunity. I'm really disappointed. I guess that's what you get though when the game developers have no understanding or drive to understand their own series and write something at the same time. It's like they didn't know, or felt it was too hard, to continue the story and decided to around with gameplay, while knowingly sacrificing the story.
I agree with a poster down below. Not a fan either. I was really looking forward to the continuation of Blood Money and the relationship between Diana and Agent 47. It would have been compelling to watch it all unfold with what I mentioned form previous games, as Agent 47 goes rogue in a completely different way. His whole life he's had no place other than an object to be used, and this should be the absolution he longs for. A new life and a chance at being someone other than his deeply abused self. *sighs* I really have no reason to buy or play this anymore. Gameplay and story go hand in hand. It's an art form, and games like these are the same formulaic approach they have to the Jason Staham movies.

/RANT OVER
Unless IO can come up with a better reason for 47's motive for killing Diana, I'm really going to hate this game.

They made a good move that game is not part of the story line. Becouse It gave them more freedom of playing chess with characters. Killing Diana will not make it personal just for 47 but for the gamer as well. And when you make this one as a stand alone title they can play with it. In this Diana can die. But another Hitman game could be right after bloodmoney where Diana can be safe and sound. I like it. I would make a same thing.

Maybe 47 kills Diana in Damnation but at least Damnation can use original voice .(and Jesper Kyd)

I am sorry for what I am about to write but...I signed all petitions about Bateson. It is time to get used to it and move on.

Yeah, we can all shout and bicker until we're blue in the face but we can't really judge the game until it's out, either by reading reviews or playing it. I know a lot of people wanted Hitman: Blood Money 2 with same cast, same music and same gameplay but the developers obviously have a more ambitious plan for it. We're getting a new dedicated game engine, new gameplay mechanics, crowd system and improved AI so I thing there is a lot look forward to. Try to look on the bright sides.

You're all underestimating the importance of story. I always go by "gameplay first, story second", but story is still important. If a game's gameplay is excellent, and it's story is simply decent, then there's no problem and likely gameplay elements would enhance otherwise mediocre plot elements making it a non issue. However...

Likely new players to the series will have no problem with the story, voice actors, and nonsensical chronologic, but people who have been following the story longer might hate it to the point of loathing, severely ruining their experience.

Like what was said, obviously we do not know everything but I think it's safe to say this new story and cast will be at most decent only... unless IO has some serious plot twists coming up which I have been thinking about lately... it could be the overused "none of it was real" plot, where it was all really just a simulation, or more interestingly, this "new" 47 could actually not be 47 and instead a clone with imprinted memories... our "Bateson" clone might still be out there for a sequel, or dead which is still better.

Yeah, and apparently the developers are saying "screw the old timeline, we are going with the timeline of THE MOVIE THAT SPUN OFF OF IT". Its worse than it sounds. Article in my thread.

If they're going for another movie I can't see it's bad the moviemakers are in on the game from the get go instead of creating something that doesn't resemble the game in any way.

Not joining the whiny cry choir isn't exactly "***kissing". The game is months away and you lot whine & moan without having a clue. Whenever something is up for interpretation you instantly go for the negative. It's getting sad & pathetic. You're no rebel. You're just sad and misguided.

Sad and misguided? Indeed you are.

The original plot of Hitman was never bad, it's just that hollywood is filled with half wit tards that think they know better, or simply were too lazy to try and fit the elements of the game into the script.

Pfft... kidnapping orphans and injecting them with "magic juice"... give me a break.

47 wasn't some orphan. His background is much worse. He was raised in an insane asylum, the product of genetic engineering. This part of it already is far more interesting than the whole movie alone, but I'll go on.

After being used to clean up his creator's messes, and killing everyone else involved in the project so to give his creator more control and money, he eventually turns on him when he plans to kill him with his superior "48" clones.

In Hitman 2 47 gains a newfound conscience and turns away from his career, to the church and is then forced back to his career when his dear Padre is kidnapped. I haven't yet beat this so I don't know the rest.

In Contracts and Blood Money the ICA which employs normal people to act as their agents is being liquidated by a company known as the Franchise which is producing and using genetically enhanced agents like the 48s related to 47.

After preventing an assassination from the franchise for the exchange of funds from the CIA which will help ICA Diana, who has been the closest thing to a friend 47 has had, poisons him and turns his lifeless body over to the Franchise. The director of the FBI is then revealed to be the creator and leader of the franchise.

As 47 awaits cremation on an altar, the director of the FBI (which was earlier revealed to have been the leader of the Franchise) feeds a reporter lies which he will feed to the press, frame 47 for the president's attempted assassination, the whole framed story designed to make genetic engineering look infamous most likely so that the Franchise can have a secret monopoly over it. Diana says a few words of goodbye to 47, kisses him, and consequently restarts 47's heart due to Diana administering death serum antidote through her lipstick (Diana never betrayed him). 47 gets up and kills everyone present at the cremation, including the Franchise head (director of FBI) therefore destroying the Franchise.

Compare this gem of a story to the unoriginal and redundant russian conspiracy in the film. The movie was just a popcorn flick made so a few hollywood quacks could make a quick buck.

Yes it would indeed be nice if the movie's story resembled the game's.

Thank you for the history lesson but what does it have to do with Absolution and the upcoming movie? We still don't know the whole story around Diana's death and we won't until we've played the game. You're pretty much talking out of your arse.

I was comparing the quality and brilliance of the game's story to the movie's. That spell it out for you?

We're obviously not on the same page. You got your head stuck in the past while I'm looking forward. Try to pull your nose from Bateson's butt cheeks every once in a while if only to see there are other things in the world and take care.

Hitman Absolution (as well as H2 silent assassin, HC and HBM) has nothing to do with the series except of the nickname of the main hero.
Hitman Codename 47 placed bold dot on such fictions as agency and diana.
Actually, there is not any agency at all. It is fiction that was created by professor to give the orders to eliminate his partners.
Diana is nothing else but a pronunciation of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid).
So, you can continue to create other absurd theories. It is funny to read it.

HMC and HBM have something to do with each other. Hitman Contracts starts in Paris after opera mission.

People, stop arguing about who knows more, who is better fan. We all are going to play Absolution and as I look upon all videos, it is looking better and better. Franchise needed some fresh air and it got. Game being cinematic dosenīt mean that it turn into an action game. IO interactive people can read and they know, what we all want. Shooting mechanics needed upgrade. We all know, that we will play it on Silent Assassin. But when I beat the game I am always playing it as Mass Murdurer becouse it is so much fun to chase someone with an axe in your hands. And Movie? What the hellīs got the movie do with this game? Just a bald dude. Even those tits were so small in the movie. Look at the game girls!! I just hope, that no movie will come out I hated every part of it...But in the movie they made him ORPHAN...You know what? THANK GOD!!! Becouse I can not imagine I would look and cloned Olyphant. Just imagine...47 Olyphants...

I'm sorry if I'm in the minority but I felt that Olyphant did a really good job at 47. Course he does a good job in everything he's in IMO.

I did not really like Olyphant, but I can't blaim it on him. The entire movie was bull. They took the origins of 47 (which the did not do correctly. Orphans? Please) and that he was the greatest assassin (Which they ed up as well). That's it. The rest was just "Bald Rambo with a suit on shooting up whenever I feel like it". No stealth or intelligence watsoever.

+ Olyphant's acting wasn't bad, he just looked like a freaking toddler. His face just isn't "grim" enough. With a better script, Olyphant would have been a better 47, but not perfect. IMO, of course.

The only thing the movie had correct was the way 47 walked, but that was it. The movie was nothing like the games, just another Hollywood action packed summer movie. And Olyphant looked and sounded nothing Agent 47.
