Tomb Raider release date shifts to 2013

I swear I never see this coming. This is so bad news to me. Tomb Raider hits Alpha in January 2012 and 12-14 months needed to polish this game! I hope it has to be some phenomenal game by the launch time. The life stops until Q1 2013.

The new screen is amazing but still we can't see daylight much. Still a little bit dark. Expecting to see some daylight image soon.

Here's few questions Meagan if possible to add in podcast.

• As the game taking almost 1 year to launch since hitting Alpha in January 2012, does that mean you may add more levels and increase gameplay hours?
  
• Can Lara traverse through trees as we have seen it in the screen?

Also ask him to make a February 19, 2013 release date as it would be my bestest birthday present ever.

And Meagan can this image comes without the writings?

We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve.

interesting, correct me when i'm wrong so the main part of the game is finished and it needs only polishing and the finishing touches. so... can you already give us some info about the current duration of the gameplay?

Not unexpected, bit disappointed the most anticipated game of 2012 comes out in 2013, but I am sure it will be worth the wait with that extra bit of polishing time.

Any chance we can have a playable demo (beta or final) for Christmas, to keep our enthusiasm up over the holidays?

To be honest, the delay is probably a result of SquareEnix's fear that TR might end up being overshadowed by other releases this (crowded) fall.
Still, if that means more time to polish the game, that's a good thing! So, I'm not that bothered by the delay at all.

Maybe SE will have released all the installments in the Tomb Raider franchise on GOG.com by the time this one comes out, that would keep us busy. Could you please find out if there are any plans for this to happen?

Meagan, does the postponed release mean PC gamers can expect a richer product when it comes to technology behind the game? DX11, higher res textures, improved lighting, tesselation etc.?

I saw the new trailer for Tomb Raider last year and I was shocked that Lara is going on survival mode. Is the new reboot still going to be an action-adventure game just like in past games? How come the game is scheduled for 2013? and I still don't know if it's going to still be a Teen-rated game or an M-rated version. Will there be surprises during the E3 convention 3 weeks from now? I'm dying to know.

I have 2 questions:

-Can you give us a more specific date? Because first quarter, it's until 31 of March (almost a year)!

-Secondly i am afraid that the new game, because of it's "open world" nature, gave you a lot of bugs and glitches, and i think that's the reason for the delay. Is there any truth in that speculation?

I'm not going to deny that this is a little upsetting, specially after such a long time without any news. BUT, the truth is all I want is for this to be the best TR ever and if that means waiting a few more months for the release, so be it! But seriously, CD, you better deliver!!!

And PLEASE, don't keep us in the dark without any news for such a long time again. I know we're getting our fix at E3 next month, but please don't go quiet again after it!

I always said that 2013 would be the year of Tomb Raider. The news comes just before E3, but when you look at it, the decision was very judicious.

Gamers were expecting to play it this Fall, but 2013 is a better date, any way you look at it.

If the game has already gone alpha a few months ago and you guys are just polishing it up.

My question is:

Have you pushed the release date back due to the fact that many other big titles have now been announced (e.g. Far Cry 3, Resident Evil 6, Medal of Honor, Assassins Creed III, Black Ops 2, Hitman, possibly GTA 5 ect...) for the September - December slots? Or is it just purely because the game is going to need a lot more polish to fix bugs ect...?

I do think this is a good idea because I remember last year when Rayman Origins (I <3 this game btw lol) was released around the same time as Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty MW 3 and the sales for the game where very poor even though it had better ratings from the likes of metacritic. I think it was over shadowed by the 2 big name games and the fact it did not have much advertising. Although it maybe possible all the competition could boost sales for this game idk.
