That's pretty much the way I see it. It's amusing though, that the level of pessimism lately has gone just as far the over the top as the level of optimism just a few years ago. A rumour is just a rumour. It's neither a proven fact nor a grand conspiracy.

Well, they stated that a new "game/studio" is about to be announced (which is pretty unclear) and that means that a new area will be added soon to the Eidos forums... if this was a LoK-related game or god help us reboot... why open a new forum for it when we have this one? Are we way too old to speak with newcomers? Is this the retirement gamers section? xD

lol, sorry, people. That was just part of the April Fool's gag. We created an entire moderator forum for all to see once they became "moderators." You'll note the title now to that Moderator Lounge is: Moderator Lounge (fake forum - april fools). Everything within is a joke

That link Linikratyo posted also has nothing to do with this Soul Reaver reboot rumor, so don't take that as validity for, or evidence against, this rumor. I was hoping that part of the joke would not be taken seriously by any here, as I know tensions are already high, due to this rumor floating around. However, the new studio statement, and the statement Jay makes about none of this supposed new game being leaked in any way yet to the public, I thought would be ok to make sure people here got that it had nothing to do with the rumors for Soul Reaver. Looking out for you!

Besides the fact that there is no new studio/game - I'd like to point out that if we ever get a new game, this will most likely be the scenario - new forum not connected to this section (which will remain in the Eidos Classics). That was the case with both Thief and Deus Ex.

And one more thing to everyone who thinks that these rumours are true. Don't confuse rumour's popularity with it's credibility. Not so long ago there were rumours from "credible sources" that MS and Sony will show their new consoles at this year's E3. This information was cited everywhere as "100% true and credible" until both Sony and MS debunked it.

If this comes to fruition it would be the greatest gaming news for me in years (well, this and the announcment of a new Carmageddon by the original team, to be exact). The thing I'm afraid of is if it's handled poorly though and, honestly, it has quite a bit more chance to be handled poorly than not (the trends of third-person adventure games have changed alot since then, the voice-acting level from previous games would be very hard to reach, and not to mention the story direction is as delicate as ever without Amy...)

But there is a good treatment for situations like that... The good old "Pretend it doesn't exist" treatment , which I will probably using for the new DMC.

IMHO, for starters, they should keep the voice-work and remake the games into this generations graphics. Man, oh man would I love to see Zephon, Melchiah, Dumah and the others in this generations graphics.

That is if I understood it correctly... By rebooting they want to change the story in some way? I never really got a clear definition of Reboot vs remake.

a reboot is basically telling a newer,original story with the same characters, a re - imagining if you will.

a remake is exactly this - telling the story of the original but with minor changes made,be it character or otherwise.(like what they did with friday the 13th and...............nightmare on elm street AKA the childhood ABOMINATION...)

i hope this clarifies things for you.

Why they would want to fix something that ain't broken (one of the most well thought-out stories ever (with a few minor inconsistencies - which you can't avoid since it's a time travel story )) is beyond me.

Hi, I'm a gaijin here, but my main intent is to hang about in the LoK section. >_>

I can't really imagine a 'reboot' of BO or SR, given how important and convoluted the story and characters are to the experience. I don't think they could top that kind of storytelling all over again differently (and what would be the need)? I'd welcome some lovely new graphics and atmosphere they can generate, but I don't see the call for a 're-imagining'. Aren't there plenty of potential story threads that could be picked up on from Nosgoth's long history? They could go on from Defiance, or choose some other part of the millennium of Kain's rule to explore, I'm sure plenty happened during that time... or even before. A remake would be fine by me as long as we can get all the possible voice actors back.

Not a fan of the whole "reboot" mania going on in the entertainment industry lately though. Like krayzilla just mentioned, I think what they're doing with DmC has already broken my heart.

I think that will be the next step they need to take with the game. Much like there was a vast difference in "look" when BO1 came out, and SR1. BO1 seemed very 2 dimensional, where as SR1 was truly 3 dimensional. I feel that they really need to ramp up the photo realism of the characters and their environment. Even though Defiance did a good job, I think they could really up the anti and give us something truly life like in a new game.

I think that with any new game, if it's remake or reboot of the franchise then we may have to accept that there will be changes. Hopefully it still manages to retain its identity and doesn't wildly stray from the story or look of the series.

I heard about the rumour through a guy working at one of our game stores, thought I'd check it on the forum afterward, so here I am. Looks like another false alarm to me, but I've been known to be wrong, so I can't help the little vestigial glimmers of hope and apprehension that are always inspired by these rumours.

I wouldn't worry about a new art direction. I always thought the execution of the character concepts were a bit too cartoony for my taste, and wouldn't mind if they were reworked to be a little more realistic, especially as concerns colour palette (why is Raziel SO blue? ;p) and body proportions.

I'm hoping the reboot as opposed to remake aspects will concern only the gameplay. I would hope that the story will remain the same. I would really enjoy a more open-world sort of game, with more locations, and puzzles. I don't enjoy hack-and-slash, so I wouldn't want the combat aspects of the game to take it over. After all, aren't there enough such games already?

If they must rerecord the voice acting, I hope that at least Simon will be able to reprise his role as Kain. That man's maniacle laughter is indispensible. ;-)

So, like many of us, I will keep a wary eye on it, and hope for the best.

Yes more realism would be awesome, though imagine if they made it even more cartoony the horror!
