— "Bullet Time" (good riddance, I'd say)
— AI while in search mode, will detect shadowed areas and other hiding places, so the player will have to move from shadow to shadow and feel safe only when moved to the area which AI already looked in. Actually, AI sometimes comment on searching in shadows and near the furniture, but don't deviate from their very predictable path and drop back to zero alertness too fast.
— AI won't hear G's footsteps in a noisy environment. There are sound files of NPC's complaining of a lot of noise, and there are AI phrases which implies that this particular AI is deaf.

It's pointless retreating into the shadows for the rest of eternity, how about a tactical withdrawal instead? If we lose another member of this board, Viktoria will have nothing to do except spend the rest of her days cleaning away cobwebs and dusting down the tatty old Thi4f logo. Instead of doing what she's supposed to, which is dodging bullets aimed at EM.

So just admit you were wrong and stay, you might even gain a little respect for having some backbone. Btw Contrarian, I always knew you would fail to predict future events... because the glyphs have all gone.

Is it because I spell vaporware, behavior, armor, neighbor, etc the correct way and not with the U that I get so much flak?

Anyway, I will admit I'm wrong if I'm wrong. My prophecy is for E3, June 7, 2012.
I think I've earned the respect of all 44 members on this site with my (up to now) perfectly flawless predictions and assessments.
I don't need no stinkin' glyphs when I have studied Les Propheties by Nostradamus.

I will admit, based on Square Enix's list, that Thief's future at E3 looks dim. The errratic behavior of SE and EM makes it that much harder to predict, and even as a practicing Agnostic, I have faith in a substantial reveal.

It has been foretold.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. Now I remember that there were concepts for a noise suppression device that would make it impossible for anyone to hear any sounds in its vicinity. The device would suck noises in and convert them into a glow emitted from the top. There are voice files in the TDS files related to AIs being suspicious about it, making remarks on their "ears popping".

I don't remember anything about "bullet time" or shadow detection. I mean, even the earliest screenshots show Garrett approaching AIs from the back and them not being able to see his shadow.

I like the shadow detection idea and being seen if you are between a light source and the AI even if you are in shadow. Both would be good additions. No to bullet time and noise sucking devices though!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure any flack you get on this forum has everything to do with your Americanised spellings, and absolutely nothing to do with the way you keep coming out with bizarrely arrogant and self-grandiosing sentences like this:

Definitely the spellings, man.

Yeah I do appreciate that. Even if they'd just occasionally said the odd message saying hi and next to nothing about the game, that would at the very least feel better than a complete blank wall.

I just hate the culture of entitlement a lot of people have on this forum.

There is potentially a stop gap coming out that might help people on here to keep their sanity. Bethesda have Dishonored coming out in October.

Sure it's not Thief but I'll take any sort of parody of it to make do until there's another instalment. Literally found out about it an hour ago. Fingers crossed it's good.

Have a look.

As D'Astous said, and I do not quote, Eidos needs to bring something more to the table than just stealth.

Thief 2.5 would do to EM what Thief Deadly Shadows did to Ion Storm: It killed 'em dead.

Conversely, the last thing EM wants to see or hear is that they knocked off Assassin's Creed and just copied their formula, not bringing anything original to the table..

Conversely conversely, AC is a cash cow for Ubisoft--books, graphic novels. figurines. a movie in the works, etc. EM would be foolish not to "borrow" from the AC playbook.

The sad fact is (sad for us old-timers) is that we are the choir, and a small choir at that. EM doesn't need to waste their time preaching to us, we are ready to give them our money, sight unseen. It is the much larger element out there that they need to win over, and (no offense intended) this much larger element is not as smart as we are. This much larger element of fans doesn't appreciate what made TDP and TMA important to us.

The times have changed. It is a new generation of gamers now. Short attention span, top-notch graphics trumps everything, preferring movie quality cut-scenes to actual gameplay, dumbed down gameplay, online play more important than solo missions, etc.

I think Thief 4 will be a very polarizing game....a fun game to play, but man, EM has a tough job ahead of them.

Take out his hood and you'll change your mind. The only reason why people have equated Assassin's Creed with stealth is because the main character wears a hood, just like Garrett in Thief does, and Thief is stealth. So because of the hood, it must be stealth right? There's also "assassin" in the title so it must be stealth right? Wrong, sir. Wrong.

But that's just it isn't it? Garrett is only recognizable by his figure wearing a hooded cloak, because he has no other distinct recognizable features. And that's just how he should be.

I hope in Thief 4 there are a lot of people in the City wearing cloaks also. Then we would finally see how Garrett blends in the populace, when previously we've only seen snippets of random cloaked people walking in the streets in cutscenes. We'd se how Garrett is "the greatest thief the world has never seen" and also finally fully de-canonize his sudden extreme fame in TDS.

trailer? I'd be happy with screen shot of character staring into ground, that would be way better then silence which we've gotten for years

I gotta say, I'm a fan of Thief, but I'm a much bigger fan of Beyond Good and Evil. Even they are releasing or 'leaking' stuff to show for it.

Some confusion here: Darkness Falls, you're talking about Black & White (B&W), not Beyond Good & Evil (BG&E).

I've stopped anticipating T4, simply because theres only a handful of pictures and nothing else to go on.
Speculating over what could be i think is pointless, and I feel the people on this forum are going to be severely let down when this game is released.
Time spent here is no investment. Games these days are aimed at the young arcade console fans that want to pick up and play. No exceptions, its marketing that works. This game is going to be quite different to how we know it, so no need for anticipation, and voicing my concerns every day along with all everyones on the forum wont change the game too much now I imagine they already have most of the basic shiz nailed.
When it comes I want to say i'll be the first to buy it, but in actual fact i'll be looking closely at reviews, game footage and more importantly the length, depth and absurdity of the game. I bet it will flop.

KEEPERR, everything you said has merit.

The game will most likely get rave reviews from the mags and website (always remember that reviews are paid advertisments) and therefore EM will make huge amounts of money. The game will be considered a flop amongst the old die-hards who want it exactly like TDP and TMA, but amongst the consolers of today who have such low expectations, it will be huge.

The "young arcade console fans that want to pick up and play" outnumber us old-schoolers. Right now, that's where the money is. It's not only reasonable, but it's a fact that Thief 4 will be targetted to consoles first.

DX:HR sold well over 2 million units so far...EM's financial success with Thief 4 is 100% guaranteed...not 99%...not 99.9%...100%.

"Also, maybe they could let Viktoria know in advance if something will be a wasted effort, or close such threads sooner to nip them in the bud?"

What, didn't anyone read my prophecy of EM ignoring The Poll?

I let the entire forum know the Poll would be a wasted effort, weeks in advance.

I can see I'm not taken seriously. This hurts.

And I can't take seriously the idea of you having ever expected anyone to take seriously anything you've said here.

@contraruan You know it's not hard to say "no news will be released by EM this week" or that they won't take notice at the threads. Does that make me a prophet?

I do. I don't always agree with contrarian, but you've just designated him as your personal nemesis.

1) The Poll. Of course I hoped EM would step up to the plate and answer, even a simple yes or no about level design would've shown they even knew a poll was going on. I'll bet the people that mattered had no clue about the poll.

2) Seriousness. Sure, I made some off the wall remarks, like Thief should be more Bayonetta-esque, but what's not to take serious about the fact that I really, truly, honestly, 100% surely do not want Garrett as the lead character? I know I'm in the minority, but I want a female lead if it's to be a sequel.

3) Prophecies. When I cast a prophecy, I always go all in. No plan B. I call it and then stick to it. I've been 100% right so far. That streak may end--I am prophesying that it won't--after E3 is over with.

Even with the misleading info that EM first put out stating that Square Enix calls the shots (who will be at E3), and then recently recanting by saying that they (Eidos will NOT be an exhibitor at E3) call the marketing and PR shots, I'm still predicting that E3 will have something significant about Thief 4.

EM should really release some news very soon. Mental breakdown of the users is imminent. Give it a month and we'll be discussing the evidences of our existence.
