I completely solved all crashing for my system. The only crashes I had were only at the ingame cut scenes where you would choose dialog options. I would get a crash to desktop with driver failure error, about 50% of the time at these cut scenes. A few crashes also where you climb a ladder to enter a new location.
So if you have any of the other problems listed on this forum, this stuff may not work for you. My system is Core i7 CPU, GTX 560 Ti Video, and Windows 7 64-bit OS. As posted elswhere, turning off the CPU core parking helped, so this is the first step. Follow the guide step by step here. http://ultimatecomputers.net/forum/v...php?f=7&t=3644 Now the main reason why DX HR is crashing, and Eidos is having trouble finding a solution, is that their game is stressing the GPU's in a certain way that other more graphically impressive games like Crysis 2 do not. It is related to GPU voltage and the Vista/7 drivers. Uninstalling and re-installing the drivers is not going to help. You need to increase GPU voltage, and perhaps underclock the GPU cores slightly. The easiest way to do this, is to use MSI Afterburner. A free GPU overclocking utility. http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm I upped the GPU voltage to 1050 (1.05v). This reduced crashing hugely. I then slightly underclocked the CORE clock and SHADER clock. This reduced crashing altogether. Remember to save and lock the profile after changing your values, and make sure the bottom option 'apply overclocking at system startup' is selected. After a restart, check MSI Afterburner in the taskbar, and make sure the values you chose have been saved. For the first 8 hours of playing this game was crashing every 10 mins. But after making these changes I restarted the game from the beginning, and now at 28 hours and only 1 or 2 crashes in that entire time. Whether this works for ATI video cards.... I'm not sure. Maybe even the voltage figure of 1.05 is incorrect for ATI. Someone should chime in here. What you underclock your CORE and SHADER clocks to depends on the model of video card. I have a factory OC 560Ti. So I reduced the CORE from 1000 to 900 and the SHADER from 2000 to 1800. Hope this helps, as I had given up on playing it with the constant crashes. Smooth sailing now. |
