Karl's answer to the question who that was, was something like: 'We can't tell anything about him now, but we'll be revealing more about him closer to the release date.'
What if that character would be Winston, traveling with Lara on request of her parents? If Lara would be 21, he'd be in his mid-40's, making him strong enough to aid Lara in her survival. Maybe he will be a mentor, like Conrad?

i got it her parents or most likely winston is worried about lara !!!! cause they haven't heard from her or heard in the news that the ship crashed winston stays behind uses magic to see where lara is and her parents try to find her but die and lara is like i hate you so i don't care (so it doesn't go the underworld way)

i more expect that Lara lost both parents already, otherwise why should she go with a few other archaeologists on this journey instead of her mom and dad? would like to see that someone in the end helps her get of the island who also stranded after Lara, and then becomes her friend/helper in future games.

im positive there are not going to be any character from past tomb raiders maybe CD made antagonists/villains look similar to the old ones. but defiantly not a returning character.

I wouldn't bet that, in this game, there will be any major antagonists (unless Roth somehow betrays Lara, which is unlikely and pretty much stupid)... There will be those people on the island, animals, and those weird looking Grudge-clone clowns we saw in concept-art (unless they ditched that idea or those scavengers are actually them).

I wouldn't think so if it's a reboot.

I think they are making a fresh start with a fresh Lara and fresh characters.

Remember she's on an island so i wouldn't think theres alot of people unless theres people who live there ?

Who Knows we will need to wait and see, I hope it's worth the wait?
