Well, like I said, I haven't been too impressed with procedural content so far, but I think that's more because it's more of an afterthought in a lot of games. I agree that procedural terrain can be pretty boring, and I'd like things like world design to be almost entirely handcrafted. Things like whether or not a dungeon refills itself after you've cleaned it out, what it fills itself with, randomized (non-scaled) missions, etc I think can really add to the experience.

Edit:

I've been checking out some of the new Skyrim screens. I might actually play an orc this time around. They've always looked too silly in the past for me to seriously consider playing them.

I don't care about any other game right now. I just want Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Sure, go for it! Orcs have always been an engaging species in the in-game literature, so why not? I personally always go for Breton mage with balding white hair specialising in Destruction. I don't know why, it's just become a thing of mine. I also make all my TES characters (bar Arena) to look roughly the same.

By the way, if you haven't played Morrowind with the Better Bodies, Better Clothes, and Better Heads mods, I recommend that you do so. They are the single most important mods available for the game, in my humble opinion, given how dire the originals are.

(The pic just shows better heads, by the way)

I don't know, I've never been a big fan of graphics mods. I always thought Morrowind's visuals were pretty complete. Changing any single asset makes it look out of place, and if I go through and update everything I inevitably run into the stylistic differences between different mod authors. The only mods I really like are those that add game content or those that try to adhere as closely as possible to the art design already contained in the game.

This, for example:

I installed this, played for about half an hour, then uninstalled it. It makes everything to bright and colorful. Couldn't stand it.

The texture mods are a big no-no, they are highly disrespectful to the original textures. The same is true of the tree replacers.

However, please take the word of a long-time Morrowind lover and hater of things that spoil a game's artistic vision, the face/body/clothes replacers do no such thing. They are basically just higher poly/higher res (delete as appropriate) versions of the originals, and I can't imagine playing Morrowind without them nowadays.

Wait wait wait - Skyrim only has 3 attributes and 18 skills? In character creation you only pick your race?

What the actual . I didn't think it was possible for them to go more streamlined than Oblivion but hot damn Todd's done it again.

Minecraft is all procedural and it makes incredible hills and especially caves. It can take several hours/days to go through the whole (larger) cave system and it doesn't feel generic at all. Also, high density of memorable places.

I feel exactly the same about graphics mods, especially in TES games. Better Bodies and Heads are a necessity for the game I think, but the ones that replace building textures are just awful. You can find good higher res versions for the ground though.

Its just a shame 90% of all the minecraft maps i have generated are flat and made of tundra or sand. getting a really good map is so rare i have forgot what one even looks like.

I'm of the "less is more" school when it comes to graphics modding. Get the Morrowind Graphics Extender (but not the latest version, because it doesn't bloody work). Then you can set proper resolutions, dial up anisotropic filtering, etc. Then, get the mods "better bodies", "better heads", and "better clothes". I would honestly not recommend using the graphics extender's "distant land" facility. While it does what it says on the tin, it removes the sense of scale that Morrowind's world had, showing you that it's much smaller than you think. Honestly, I think that's all you need. Those two things (MGE and the "better" mods) improve the experience without in any way altering the vision of the game. If anything, in the original version of Morrowind the character models were much lower-poly than the surroundings anyway, so if anything it looks MORE harmonised, not less.

In the new version, you can enter the Seed when generating a level. Just find some seeds on Teh Internetz and the game will create the exact world as is on the image (spawnpoint is random though). Try "Glacier" for example. Good luck with your maps.

I'm terribly sorry you weren't keen on Morrowind 2011. Watching this video, it looks quite incredible to me. I'm going to download it tomorrow, I think!

Well POM i might still get Morrowind 2011 to run but its instructions are MASSIVE and complex with some bugs, and i hate modding a game only to screw it up forcing me to reinstall it over and over so unless i can get it to work in one i will leave it until last.

Whoa that's it.

If there's a mod for the combat system, i'm going to play Morrowind again ; this time to the very end.

I'm strangely comfortable with their decision to remove the stats. 18 skills looks adequate for a TES game, and there will also be perks which will hopefully provide some detailed character builds instead of 5 or so "templates".

And best thing is, x5 stat multiplier farming is no more.
