I don't know about dragons, but they are for people. Incidentally, where can I get black soul gems?

I think you kinda missed the question, 68_pie. It's about creating a world that doesn't feel like it's revolving around the protagonist but one that feels living and breathing independently. It's not about the perspective and it has nothing to do with taking away the fun as Skyrim currently proofs (in fact I would call the TES games the closest to the spirit of Ultima 7).

I wasn't expressing an opinion just quoting from the EM tumblr.

Edit ~ Links to the tumblr posts I was quoting (which include the question): Link 1 and Link 2.

You've all almost persuaded me into buying Skyrim but I know I'm going to have to adjust my expectations if I'm going to have fun with it rather than getting mad as is usual for me and recent Bethesda/Zenimax games.

Well, I assumed you quoted those because they expressed your own opinion since the original EM statement in question was an even older one (can't find it myself at the momemnt).

Skyrim is like a great mix between Morrowind and Oblivion, IMO. If you don't like those, I doubt you will like Skyrim much. Personally I love it but it took me an hour and some tweaking before I was really getting into it again.

I agree with some of it but it was mainly in response to something Reven asked and cos that was the only statement that I recalled.

I loved Morrowind and hated Oblivion so maybe I'll "like" something inbetween.

Indeed, tested on a human. But it still says is has "grand soul" captured, though I have empty grand soulstones in my inventory and they are no good for human souls.

I had two, one I bought from shifty guy at Winterhold and another one looted from "magic anomaly", already with grand soul. AFAIK they still contain grand souls and therefore no different from usual grand soulstones for enchanting purposes.

I need to test one on dragon.

Yeah, it was the same in Oblivion with the grand level. However, it's easier to find a human(/other sentient race) to soul trap than it is to find a creature with a grand soul. Also, roleplaying.

In Oblivion, you could convert grand soul gems to black ones at a special altar once an ingame week or so, so I'm guessing there's something similar here.

Gah, Skyrim's caused me to pull an all nighter... curse you Bethesda... the first one I've done in a long time. I think the last all night gaming session I had was with Gothic III.

You think your assassin's are powerful? Imagine being able to summon two Dremora Lords to fight for you... yeah... that's Conjurer 100. I walk into a room, conjure up two Dremora Lords, then I walk around looting while the room explodes in blood and gore. Occasionally I stop looting to watch the carnage.

Giants give grand souls. I trapped 4 or 5 of them last night. Of course, getting close enough to soul trap them without getting killed is a task and a half, especially given that I wear only light armour and have pumped most of my points into MP rather than HP....

Right! Giants! When it's a lone one, it's super easy, I have the Shadow standing stone activated, so I can use the invisibility power, walk right up to the giant and stealth kill it, with two it'll be a bit trickier, but still doable.

Speaking of soul gems, story time: I found myself in the lair of a necromancer who had been kidnapping and killing women to raise them as ghostly servants. When I got into the main chamber, he was sitting on his throne, with one of the ghosts standing beside him. I stealth past them and started looting stuff behind them (I usually try to do this before I go for the kill, good for training sneak). As I snatched a soul gem from a pedestal near the throne, the ghost turned against the necromancer and killed him!

I might have to do a restart here since at level 17 I don’t have the right and necessary combat and magic skills needed to survive 90% of the higher level fights I seem to be getting into with “snow” level creatures like bears being tanks with teeth and claws making the pass to the labyrinthine a death trap. That’s my only real complaint with this game so far- everything levels you up yet it’s not the skills that you really want or need.

I don't know, it seems much like the cazador in NV, some types of creatures act as deterrents from visiting certain areas too quickly.

I had thought that at first but almost anything that isn’t a standard bandit is now made of iron and if I see a bandit with a two hand weapon I can guarantee that it will descend into a circling knife fight that will take 5 minutes to finish if I use my fireballs and climb up where he can’t hit me.

system works great. The problem ir with your gameplay because you try doing everything and don't do actually the things you want/need to do. The worng thing is to try pickpocket every person, to open every lock you see in a city, to pick up ingridients and then do a lot of alchemy, blacksmithing etc. Yes, it is good to try everything but don't overdo those things like most of gamers tend to do. There is no need to steal everything in first city because you will level up too fast and won't get really anything worth of it anyway. Try play as you would do nornally do. Progress story, do sidequests and so on.
This system works great against all powerleveling gamers because it is really easy to powerlevel yourself with alchemy and other noncombat things but you will screw yourself by doing this. I am already lvl40 and have never experienced any problems in combat with my wood elf. My archery, one hand and light armor, sneaking stats are almost maxed out and I one shot, one kill almost every nonboss enemy if i can sneak behind them.

I'm specialising in destruction and conjuration, with restoration as a back-up, and because I use bound weapons I also get a lot of points for archery and one-handed. I'd like to branch out into enchanting as well (so as to get armour which functions as both an MP boost and actual armour, rather than a flimsy rag) - do you think that'd be overstretching my character, and lead me into the trap Pinky and Reven seem to have fallen into? I'm level 20 and had no problems so far, but obviously I want to be careful.

I just realized the game can be run without Steam, by launching it via TESV.exe

I LOVE YOU, BETHESDA

Or....OR....and here's an idea....you could just give in and buy it. You know you want to!

If you liked Oblivion, this is that, but much better. Seriously, I don't think I could go back to Oblivion after this.

[EDIT] Here's some good news for Kodaemon: install Steam games on different drives.

Dual wielding daggers BLAMMO! 12 x bonus while sneaking.

Does Bethesda games really have a ending? I don't ever think I have played to the end in any of the Fallout games.. Will Skyrim be one of those, going on for ever games?
