Skyrim is looking fantastic though. I think I'm going to have to grab it.
Khajit is going well for me. I play stealthy/magey and my highest skill is archery, although I am starting the college of magic. I tend to use stealth and bow for standard bandits and whatnot, and magic against trolls and dweomer clockworks. for dragons I use whatever the situation calls for. if they keep their distance, I use the bow, if they get close enough, I use magic.

Speaking of... if one more dragon kills my damn horse!

Excellent, thanks! And I am going to winterhold specifically to do the drinking contest now!

Enjoy it! And enjoy your bound bow when you get it, it really is quite wonderful.

Has anyone got the stats for the bound sword spell you can buy in Whiterun?.

Either way it looks good and works just as well.

It's been mentioned often in connection with Spector and DX already but almost any writeup on Ultima VII (+addons) is worth reading. Listen up, people at EM, there's still much to be learned from the past! I feel that one of the major challenges for future DX/Thief/Batman-games lies in reimplementing the world sim-aspects while still providing all the story telling means necessary. One of my bigger gripes with DXHR could've been avoided if only 25% instead of the felt 90% of ingame discussions would've revolved around H+-themes. It all felt artificial and forced in order to further the games main theme instead of building a lving world.

Damage 16 untrained One Handed, 32 dualwielding.
With 2 points in One Handed skill 22, 44 dualwielding
BTW Mace of Molag Bal, quest related weapon, has damage of 25 here and there are nice looking "armor negation" perk for maces.
It's special Daedric mace, it seems.

Thanks for this, now I know to stick with bound for the harder enemies on the throat of the world since my fine orc sword is starting to fail me.

But one more thing...

Ps. Speaking of silverhands Is there a list of factions with some info on each somewhere since I keep running into groups who I have no idea what they stand for our why they hate a certain group.

FFS thank you! Going there now!

I was more than a little angry that no one at the college had that goddamn Bound Bow spell for sale. I'm still using my Elven bow, which is awesome against un-armored foes, but useless against any type of armor after Level 20.

Yes, there was a statement like this and it wasn't received very well either. All in all DXHR felt more immersive then I feared it would after reading that but there's lots of room for improvement, I think.

Stealth is really sort of weird. Sometimes it seems to work well, other times not so well. The difference between interior stealth and exterior stealth especially. Inside, I can be within ten feet of an enemy and they maybe notice me just enough to become a little alert. When I'm outside, though, enemies can spot me from across a field, even if I'm hugging cover.

Do shadows actually do anything? Sometimes it seems they do, sometimes not so much. One of the early thieves guild missions for instance. I can sneak around inside very well even though the whole building is lit with torches. Sneaking outside in the dead of night however and I'm spot from fifty feet away again.

The quickest way to Malkrath from Winterholm is to go the Jarl's house, talk to the dark elf, then get in a drinking contest at the bar... trust me... quickest way. ;-)

Also, what the is up with bears in this game? It takes more arrows to put down a brown bear than it does a master vampire or one of those high leveled draugrs. Whenever I stumble into one I have to book it to the nearest cliff and slide down it to escape.

Played over 40 hours of skyrim and I feel I am not even on 1/3 of the game.
Biggest game ever? Damn...

srry guys but DEHR has a contender for GOTY, and I honestly never expected that. Skrim is incredible.

Currently 66% off Alpha Protocol on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/34010/

If you haven't got this already, it's well worth picking up for this price.

A game that combined the ambition and scope of Alpha Protocol with the polish and refinement of DXHR would pretty much be GOTYAY for me.

Biggest load of bull! I spent an hour trying to figure out what I was supposed to do with that "drinking game" and accomplished nothing. He just kept taking my Ale, Mead and Wine, getting up, gesturing wildly and sitting back down. At one point I managed to get him to walk over to his sister and say a few words, but then he went back to his seat and never did anything like that again.

I kid you not, an hour I spent with him, trying different things, but notta!

So I walked to Markerth. Oh sweet lord, did I walk.

All this for the Bound Bow, which was... NOT AVAILABLE!

Needless to say I was enraged. So I used cheats to upgrade my Conjuration to fifty (a level I knew was enough to find the bow based on other reports I'd read) and sure enough Calcemo had it this time.

Apart from this maddening journey, I've still managed to find myself at awe with Skyrim. I agree with Zakka, this is a real contender for GOY in my book. I've put countless hours in already, and I don't feel even close to finished. I haven't even seen most of the areas yet, or completed even one of the Guild stories. Days I've played, and have barely scratched the surface.

I did.

I wouldn't doubt if Skyrim takes most every GOTY award. Though when it comes to individual categories DXHR will still probably win it out on some aspects.

From a tumblr question about immersion:

It was also a conscious decision to have gameplay conversations and hacking sequences in first-person.

However, when making a game, you can’t have it all. You cannot design a game that will appeal to everyone.

So we had to pick and choose.

We’re you hoping for a first-person-only experience? With no cover system, no regen, lean keys, no take-downs, melee combat and everything in the environment being interactive?

If you were, then I’m sorry for you, but that’s not the game we set out to create, because that’s not the game we felt the majority of players wanted to play.

Simulation may be very immersive, but it’s not always fun. It may even be quite the opposite in some instances.

Our primary focus was on making a game that works and that is fun for most people. We tried to remain immersive whenever we could, but we also pull you out when we think it’s best for the game.

The cover system wasn’t introduced because it’s trendy and the flavor of the month.

We put it in because it made stealth better and workable by allowing you to see your environment and move while remaining hidden.

Also, having the cover system puts new players in the right frame of mind regarding combat. This is no run-and-gun game and having a cover system is a clear indication of that.

Is it immersive to see Jensen in 3rd-person and still having the HUD show up on-screen? Maybe not, but it makes for better gameplay and I think the reviews validate those choices.

Maybe in the future we’ll figure out how to do stealth work beautifully in 1st-person (and please, don’t tell me DX1 nailed it in that respect, I don’t believe that), but this wasn’t the project and we weren’t the team to do it.

In the end, we tried our damndest to get as many things right as possible.”
and:

What I meant by that is that sometimes concessions can be made for the sake of realism at the expense of fun. My point was that when we were faced with such decisions, we went with fun first and that’s why the immersive aspect is not quite as present.”

Was up on a mountain in Skyrim trying to kill a Foresworn; some leader of a very small camp called Dragon Bridge Overlook. I waited till nightfall and crept in, but only found one guy, who was not the commander of this outpost.
The terrain was steep and craggy and thick with foliage, so I supposed he was out there somewhere, but knew I'd never find him on my own. So, standing atop the great mount, I shouted fire and wroth into the heavens, calling to my foe in the tongue of the ancient Dragons. He called in return and betrayed his location. Moving swift, creeping to a high vantage, I zeroed-in and let fly my Bound Arrow... slaying him in one shot.

Yes, the Bound Bow is bleeding awesome. It's renewed all my zeal for the game.

Regarding shouts: I've found about five words of power, not counting those which belong together and slain 7 dragons. But still only the first two shouts you train with the greybeards are unlocked to me...How many dragons do I need to slay? The game always tells me that I need a dragon's soul to unlock....

EDIT: Never mind, I'm marveling at my own stupidity right now.

I was level 11 and had Conjuration skill at 41 when I bought Bound Bow, just checked my old save.
These mages, they keep telling "to those who have the talent to cast them" or some such. You can't miscast a spell in Skyrim, can you?

There are Black soul gems, I had one contaminated by Grand soul, but I think they are for Dragons.
