Ok here is the list. I have only put in the names that more than one person (besides the person who suggested it) has agreed they think could be Lara, otherwise, it would be a bloody long list:

Summer Glau
Olivia Wilde
Alison Carrol
Gemma Arterton
Natalie Portman
Kaya Scodelario
Lyndsey Fonseca
Talulah Riley
Ellen Page
Nina Dobrev
Olivia Thirlby
Hayley Atwell

I counted twice. This should be it

If it's going to be a younger Lara, or using the same story as the upcoming game Jennifer Lawrence could do it. She played really strong characters in Winter's Bone, and The Poker House. http://film-book.com/the-hunger-game...y-2011-photos/

I love lurking these threads. I won't ever comment on who I would like to see at the risk of someone taking it out of context and running with it, but the suggestions are so fun to look at!!

Good selection criteria

I've added the poll to this thread

Perhaps the OP, or someone else, can gather a collection of pics of all those actresses to place in the first post for reference, for those who don't know all of those names and would like to see who the candidates are before they vote?

I tried to find images with all the women with their hair up and an action face. Some I couldn't do that so I just tried to find the best Lara-looking shots of them instead.

Totally agree with you about Jennifer Lawrence!
And nice job with the photo collection!

Too bad we can only vote for one actress, as I would like to vote for both Lyndsy and Nina. But since I had to choose one, I voted for Lyndsy because I know she can kick some ass!!!

Thanks, and yeah, I have three actresses from there that I think could be Lara but I went with Ellen Page in the end.

I ultimately had to go with Summer Glau. While Natalie Portman looks nice, she is NOT an action heroine. (If you've seen the Star Wars movies, you see that she is much better at the touchy-feely romantic scenes than she is in the action beats.) So I really can't see her as Lara Croft. So unless she has really improved in the action heroine area with her latest movies ("Your Highness"--I think that's what it was called, and "Thor"), I'd have to pass on the lovely Ms. Portman.

Ellen Page, much as I love her, I really haven't seen her in any action beats except for Xmen III, and at that, she did more running rather than ass kicking.

Summer Glau.... Firefly/Serenity and Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles. 'nuff said.

But, these are only opinions...your actual mileage may vary.

Another choice might be Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse)

Well these are the ones that have just been suggested already. I'm sure if we did an 'other' box, it would have the most votes and each girl only have one vote and there wouldn't be much point in the poll

The actress whichever gets the role, needs to show me that they physically can handle the role.

If we all went by this way of deciding, there'd be no actresses in the world. For me, she doesn't need to have been in an action film or anything like that for me to have seen her skills at acting, the best actresses are versatile.

I just want to say, we know little about 'new' Lara

Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver in the Terminator and Alien films delivered their roles amazingly. Their characters were tough and they didn't just rely on the words on the page they let their actions show it to us. I'm not saying let's go get a Female boxer or a female MMA fighter to have the role of Lara Croft. You don't get a actress or a actor that might give you a piece or a part of that character, you get them because they can do/be that character.

I'm saying that of course, they need to be able to be able to play the physical role, but it doesn't mean she has to have been in something physical before to give us proof. That is what you're saying isn't it?

Actors and actresses do training on the set of the film and before the film begins production, to get them into the character. She doesn't have to have done any physical roles at all. Happens all the time in films, that's why they have weeks of training and preparation before they begin filming. I didn't say that the actress whichever gets chosen now has to be physically ready, just that when the film is on the big screen that's one of the things i'll be looking for.
