Here's another suggestion: Ellen Page.

She's an amazing actress and looks quite a lot like the Lara in the upcoming game. I've never heard heard her English accent but i'm sure she'll have a good one as she's such a versatile actress.

Oh come on! Summer looks Caucasian as well!!! In fact, she is of Scots-Irish and German descent.

As for Ellen Page, just no... I don't see any resemblance with Lara whatsoever.

I'm sorry but she looks so much more like Lara than Summer Glau. Summer Glau looks of Asian descent. Plus she looks nowhere near her early twenties. I'd say in some pictures she looks to be pushing forty and i'm really not trying to be dramatic.

I honestly don't think she looks Asian. And I think she looks really good for her age (30) and doesn't look like she's forty at all! BUT I agree that she is not the right age to play Lara in the new movie. I believe she could look early twenties, but I think it's important that we don't have in mind just this one movie but also the possibility of a sequel or more where it would be ideal to keep the same actress, obviously! This is also one of the main reasons I don't like Olivia Wilde for the role.

I admit that Summer was one of my favourite choices for the role and I believe she really could have portrayed a fantastic Lara, BUT I hadn't realized that she was already 30 and taking into account what I said previously, she's no longer part of my top choices to portray Lara.

And again, so far, my top choices remain Lyndsy Fonseca and Nina Dobrev!

Nina Dobrev also looks foreign and Lyndsey Fonseca looks nothing like Lara either. I admit Emma Watson doesn't but Gemma Arterton and Ellen Page definately do. Remember that Lara has a very long English lineage so it is pivotal that she looks English and Nina Dobrev just doesn't.

We clearly have different views on how Lara looks because I can see more Lara in both Lyndsy and Nina than I see on Ellen Page... :/

We clearly do. I have an idea. Why don't we do a poll on all of the Laras currently suggested on this thread and see who looks most like Lara? Acting skills and race aside.

Since 'Juno' was mentioned, let me bring once again my bet for best Lara.

Olivia Thirlby: Best looking actress around for the role? I doubt it. Looks like Angelina Jolie? Nah... Looks like any of the videogame Laras so far? Hmmm... Looks like the concept art and gameplay Lara from the next game? A tiny bit. British? Erm... New Yorker. So why?
  1. Acting skills: classical Shakespearian acting in New York at the American Globe Theatre, and in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
  2. Action and combat on stage experience: Completed stage combat course with British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat (BASSC) while on the Shakespeare summer school at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
  3. Appearence: obviously caucasian, young, sexy, gorgeous brown eyes (enough for now, before I drool on my keyboard ).
  4. Characterisation as a rebel english aristocrat: well, she studied shakespearian theatre for years in London, I'm sure she's capable of doing the accent. If not flawless for the ears of the british audience at least better than Angie's, I bet. For the rest I'd rely on her skills.
I didn't notice her much when I saw Juno, her role was somewhat secondary. But I saw half of Si j'étais toi (The secret in US/UK, 2007) with her and David Duchovny and I was like... WOW... I mean, she's good, very good. I saw this film this year, I was impressed, really. My first though when I saw her: "I want this Lara Croft. She's perfect".

^Taking into account looks alone, I like her - I think she looks better for the role than some of the actresses suggested in this thread. However, I never saw her acting so I can't comment on that.

From looks alone she's a contender. She does look quite a bit like Lara. And she's got a good English accent then she may well be good for the role. I'd need to see her acting first though.

I kinda agree on Ellen on the looks(kinda), and maybe, just maybe, she could pull of Lara, but I don't know... Damn, this is tricky! XD

Excellent suggestion, Qix. Much better than Ellen Page (LOL) or Summer Glau.

I think it's already been established that Mrs Jolie will not be in this film. This one is going to be similar to the game coming up so will have a much younger Lara.

I think Summer Glau would be excellent also! And for those of us who are her fans, we do know that she CAN pull off a British accent...or was it a New Zealander accent...in any case, I think it was in the final episode of Firefly where she speaks with such an accent...and she rocked it!
And as much as I love Emma Watson, and thoroughly enjoyed the Harry Potter movies largely because of her, I do not see her as Lady Croft.

There's really no actress I've seen that immediately made me think she has to be Lara, but Hayley Atwell is definitely among my favorite suggestions so far:

I am not 100% sure but I think River uses a Cockney accent on episode 6 when talking to Badger! She's mimicking his accent

@domina - She's too old to portray an early twenties Lara.

She's 29, 30 in April. A llittle older than some of the suggestions, but I don't think the gap is that great, especially given her looks. It's not uncommon for older actresses to portray someone younger in movies and TV either.

Agreed. She ruined the first movie for me, and I didn't even bother with the second.

You're right on that, Dark7Angel. But I think she could probably give her accent a bit more subtlety. A little more clipped, perhaps. I bet she could do it pretty well.

She might actually do the trick!

Well, think about it this way, in movies, older people always portray younger characters and it's believable

Indeed. The actress who played Moaning Myrtle in a couple of the Harry Potter movies is 40 some years old, and she played a teenaged ghost.

Gabrielle Karteris played a teenager on Beverly Hills 90210, and she was in her late 30's early 40's.

Just a couple of examples.

In my opinion, Hayley Atwell looks like a late twenties/early thirties woman, not like an early twenties girl. Maybe she could be able to look younger but I think the ideal would be to actually get a younger actress that could portray Lara not only in this movie but in possible sequels as well. An actress that would grow/age with the character.

EDIT: New small interview with Graham King about the Tomb Raider reboot: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/n...-the-apes.html - I really don't know what to think about this... :/

Maybe the pic posted isn't making her justice, she looks somewhat tired. Nothing a well done make-up wouldn't help, but thinking on the eventual sequels I agree: she's a bit old, just a bit. I'll keep my Olivia Thirlby for now then.
