i really think Nina , Lydnsey or Gemma would suit the role of the new lara croft , they kinda have the look of the new lara in them so i could really see one of them playing as the new lara.

Angelina will always be iconic as Lara Croft.
But times change - and my vote happily goes to Gemma Arterton, without a shadow of doubt.

i'd like to see gemma as lara too. and besides, how many actors have played james bond? superman? (logic might be crappy but i hope you guys get it)

times do change, and it's also natural to have a new generation of actors/actresses.

however, jolie will still be a big part of my tomb raider experience. i love her even before she portrayed lara croft

but, as i have said, i agree that times change and the film makers need to adapt and evolve. i'm ready for lara croft's new face!

Personally I'm glad that Angelina Jolie cannot do Lara Croft anymore. She just left a bad taste in my mouth. She's a good actress with other stuff, but I just feel like the first two TR movies were a waste.

If i could cast Lara it would be Kristin Kreuk, she was pretty good as Lana Lang in Smallville.

From the options it would be Summer.

Despite the fact she is nothing like Lara, I think Zooey Deschannel would be great for a part in the Lara Croft movie. She definitely has the class element down! Especially in 500 days of summer, and even in her TV show New Girl. Just look at her though,
But, I don't think she'd be Lara, she's just not the type of "Action" person!

I really liked Angelina as Lara, she did her own stunts and everything too, but that was years ago, and she's grown both as an actress, and person, adn she no longer looks the part either. She's still beautiful though, and i'd kill to look like her...

Megan Fox, would be a good Lara, I hated the idea of Megan playing Lara at first and said horrible things about her. But then I watched Transformers and Jennifers Body and though "Oh wow.." so I like Megan for her too.

For inspiration, I actually did google Actresses and Lara Croft was on top..aha!

Adriana Lima, would make a good Lara, and so would Mila Kunis..There's so many women that look the part, aswell as could pull off the whole Lara thing...

I'm not excited for a movie though, in all honesty. I wouldn't buy it either, because the games and past movies are far too good.

Zooey Deschannel? She looks nothing like her and to my knowledge has never played action and i've never seen her english accent. There's nothing that puts her anywhere near a good candidate. Plus she looks too old to be 21.

Megan Fox looks way too plastic to be Lara too and too old. This Lara is more natural. She may have been a good candidate for the old Lara but not this one either. Plus she's not that great an actress, imo.

Adriana Lima is a model isn't she? Plus she also looks nothing like Lara.

Mila Kunis can look quite a bit like Lara depending on the right make-up andd she's the only one out of your group that looks young enough to be 21. I've seen her in some movies and thought she'd look like a good Lara but i'm yet to hear her English accent and I don't know whether or not she's ever done any action movies...

i think olivia wilde would be suitable. at least she looks fit and can do action scenes. as an actress as such, she is ok. at least i have no complaints about her in tron or other movies.
the rest is unknown to me besides natalie portman of course. but natalie is not really a action star and looks very slim as well. but her acting is very good. black swan was just brilliant.

I would have to agree on just about every point.

Olivia Wilde: Good looks, can do action scenes, and I think she's an alright actress. Loved her in TRON Legacy and even in Cowboys and Aliens.

Natalie Portman: Good looks, excellent actress. Better at interpersonal and romantic scenes. Very awkward in action scenes. Never saw Black Swan, so I can't say, but based on other stuff I've seen her in....she'd be hit n' miss with me.

To respond to the forum in general now:
Not everyone can look exactly like Lara Croft. Even, the vaunted, artsy-fartsy Angelina Jolie really didn't come very close at all.

Class? Looks? It's all subjective.
For the live action models, a Brazilian was hired as Lara Croft, and she looked and acted as much like Lara as any of the other British models I've seen, albeit with a slightly different language. (And she's actually a blonde, for Chrissakes..lol.) So, I don't think (aside from speaking voice) that origin facial structure plays too heavy a role.

As long as the actress is stunningly attractive, can do the accent/voice, has good acting chops, and can perform convincingly in action sequences, she'll pass for Lara Croft with me. (One would think I would qualify Angelina Jolie as passing for the above qualifications, but she just rubbed me the wrong way with her artsy fartsy attitude.) Given the above qualifications, for me that would include Olivia Wilde and/or Summer Glau.

I love Lara Croft, by I don't make my standards so exact that it disqualifies many excellent actresses that are stunningly attractive from the role. Lara is a cyber-creation, made to look as unique as possible. Well, that's cyber-space, where anyone with digital artistic talent can play e-God.

^ I agree with you on everything bar origin facial structure. I wouldn't be too annoyed if she has blue eyes but she has to look British or at the very least Caucasian. I would be devastated if the new Lara was hispanic or asian who looked very hispanic or asian because it would just ruin all of her rich history. As far as we know, Lara is still an aristocrat with a rich line of British descent. It would be ridiculous for her to look like she comes from an entirely different race when her British heritage is so long.

And I agree with your point too, M'Lady.

I think the notable exception was Ellen Roche as a Lara model. I honestly had no idea she was Brazilian until I read her bio. Otherwise, to me, she made a very hot Lara Croft. I'd never heard her speak, so I couldn't account for the accent, but facially, I was fooled.

It would be awkward to have someone like Penelope Cruz, or Salma Hayek (I'm speaking strictly on appearance, and not necessarily age) to play Lara Croft, when they do (despite their considerable attractiveness) look very Latina...and they'd have to REALLY work on their accents. It would be just as awkward to have the lovely Grace Park (Korean-American actress who played Boomer/Athena on the recent Battlestar Galactica series) play her.

Then again, reboots have proven they are not above changing a major character's race to suit the story.
Recalling again, the new Battlestar Galactica...not only did they take a role originally played by a black man (Terry Carter), and change him to a white man (Michael Hogan) in the role of Col. Tigh, (and in so doing, made the role of Tigh change from a loyal, and straight and narrow executive officer, to a hardnosed, usually drunk, but generally reliable XO) but they took three prominent characters (Starbuck, Boomer, and Cain) and made them females. And for Boomer, it was another role originated by a black man (Herbert Jefferson, Jr.) and played by Grace Park, the lovely Korean-American actress I mentioned earlier. Essentially, on many counts, the new Battlestar Galactica was radically different from the 1978 original series....and some fans didn't care for the radical changes. (Me, personally, I loved both shows.)

Let's just be glad that they didn't take Lara and make her a dude. (We already have the Uncharted series, now.)

Grace Park really is a lovely actress! She kicks ass in Hawaii Five-0 as Kono Kalakaua (which was also originally a male character!)

Oh, yeah she is smokin' hot. (I have a thing for hot Asian/Asian descended women anyways ). And that's interesting. That makes two roles where she's superceded a character's gender...and possibly race. Ha ha ha.

I didn't vote yet but for me Olivia Thirlby & Gemma Arterton are pretty much tied.Olivia has the "original" look while Gemma for me has the "newer" look.
ALL the other gals look great but they don't have that Autehntic look that reminds me of TR1-3.I didn't think jolie was all that great looking or that she's a great actor but she did a good enuff job while it lasted.
Good that they're picking a new laura croft.
P>S> I Loved Gemma Arterton in prince of purrrrrrrsia
Olivia Thirlby tr1-3
Gemma Arterton last few TR's
edit:

Personally i don't see why so many voted for Alison Carrol other then she's been in laura's gear.
I'd Love to see Olivia & Gemma in laura's gear, either 1 of these is the best pick but it really depends on where the story is going to start & end with this movie.I want her to LOOK like the game version, NO BLUE eye Blondes>>>that's gotta be an early april 1st joke.

^ Just a small correction, it's Lara, not Laura.

Largely because, not only does she wear the gear well, but she's also very athletic, and does lots of tumbling and acrobatics that authenticate her appearance as Lara.
