Ermm.... no ? Do you think I´m stupid or something. Do you think that I thought that Paramount Pictures would release a movie just to us fans ?? Of course they were made for the masses, like all movies are. And thats my point, I watch a lot of movies, Old, classics, re-makes, new, anything. And with that experience + my age I can say that of all the movies I have seen during my life, Tomb Raider movies both 1&2 were very, very bad.

Like in cradle of life, Lara finds the Lunar Temple or what not almost by no effort at all. And both of the movies feel like they were riding the "making a movie out of a game" wave at that moment. They weren´t as crappy as those turds Uwe Boll made at least.

I thought that Jolie fitted in the character quite well actually. The movies sucked, not Jolies character.

....I was very tempted to again chime in and say why also I loved AJ as Lara, but I already did many times and I guess it's pointless to repeat myself any further. C'mon guys, let's knock it off; this thread about the new movie.

Half of the members here like the AJ Lara and the other half doesn't, we get it by now. No point in beating that dead horse over and over; no-one is ever going to change their opinion about AJ Lara, either way, from these online discussions

Now that Patty Jenkins is no longer directing the Thor sequel, they should grab her for the Tomb Raider reboot! Her gritty approach would be perfect if they want to go with something that matches the video game reboot!

Thats true. I agree, let´s talk about the new movie. I would like to see something really special (nothing like new indiana jones, more like silent hill movie). Maybe Crystal Dynamics should do the film instead of Hollywood? It seems that hollywood ruins everything it touches, like, imagine lord of the rings were made in hollywood and by steven spielberg or michael bay...

Sorry, I didn't want to argue and I certainly don't think anyone on here is stupid.
What I want to say, we fans want only the best for TR franchise and sometimes criticize TR movies or TR games too much.

Peace!

No Kim Kardashian in the poll, shame, I really wanted her to be the new Lara. That's of course a joke!!

Voted for Summer Glau, but I wouldn't mind if Nina Dobrev was the new Lara, she's hot!

Angelina had starred in 17 odd movies before she did Tomb Raider, that was starred in, not just some supporting role. Not only was she well known before Tomb Raider, but she had also won some awards for some of those acting roles. Angelina was not known for action roles before Tomb Raider, does not mean she was not a world famous actress. And I believe it was Bone Collector that got Simon West's attention, Girl Interrupted was not yet out when he was looking for the actress to play Lara. So yes being the main star of a big budget production, they will want a well known actress. Tomb Raider is not that big a draw card that they can afford to cast an unknown. The franchise was a lot more popular back in the 90's.

I know she was in films before GI, but she wasn't that known, IIRC. GI was what put her firmly on the A list.

Before that she did stuff like Hackers (Which I personally like a lot) that weren't exactly major successes, IIRC.

If I'm wrong, though, and she was already extremely well known, that would explain why they didn't cast Kate Beckinsale...

(Interesting aside: I was reminded the other day that one person's 'world famous actress' is another's 'who?' when someone I was talking to had no idea who Jennifer Love Hewitt is...)

Probably because she's got the "look" of the Lara Croft most of us know and love (the folks that selected the official Lara Croft models had pretty discerning eyes)....and she's quite gymnastic! (especially compared to previous Lara Croft official models)

If she can act, she'd be the total package for a Classic (more experienced) Lara Croft. Sadly, she might be just a little bit too old to play the Lara that folks are looking for for the third movie, unless said third movie continues the exploits of the more experienced Lady Croft.

Actually, one of the producers of the reboot recently came out and said they're looking for a 25-30 year old actress for Lara.

Can't wait. It sounds like it's going to be awesome. I hope they take it seriously.

Yeah, peace

Im just very critical when it comes to movies. And the movies were quite horrible in every sense of common movie criticism. Not just as a TR fan.

Now, let´s drop the subject

I believe they should pick Olivia Wilde, she's well known for her role as 13 in the House MD tv series. And she's been in a handful of films. Plus she has a mysterious aura about her. I think that fits with Lara pretty well =D

Ellen Page????

Some might think she's pretty, but she is WAYYYYYY too far from the type of girl to play Lara Croft.

I can agree to an extent. Even in Xmen 3, as Kitty Pryde, she used her powers more as an evasive tool, than an offensive capability. Ellen Page is definitely more suited to the artsy styled movies (Whip It, Juno, etc.) But she does seem to have an affinity for sci-fi (Xmen, Inception)

I'm even more perturbed by the lead that Alison Carroll has.

I mean yes she is beautiful and certainly she looks like Lara as far as a promo model goes. But like I said before, being a model doesn't qualify one as being an actress to take on a major feature length film.

Seriously, do you (those who voted for her) actually want this daunting undertaking of a movie project, for such a prestigious role, being handed to (and in all fairness) an inexperienced and unproven actress with virtually no credentials to speak of?

Again, I do applaud Alison as the best of the game promo models, and I wish her the best of luck in pursuing an acting career. But it will take her time to not only learn her craft, but build up her repertoire. And I don't think this movie can wait for her to be ready.

For now we need a proven actress capable of portraying Lara, as well as possessing the acting fundamentals, that is to say can convincingly deliver various performances of genuine emotional & motivational authenticity to create the reality of a given scene. And considering how emotionally demanding this role is - starting as a very frail girl being put to the ultimate test, and carrying us along that journey of self discovery to becoming the strong & determined adventurer... well it goes without saying this places a great deal of expectation on who ever does fill these shoes.

The movie deserves the very best, and so does Lara.

^ I totally agree with you about Alison Carroll but then I believe you're backing Summer Glau. I think Alison Carroll and Summer Glau are the polar opposites when it comes to this discussion.

Alison Carroll looks one of the most like Lara but has the least acting experience out of all the women on the poll, whereas Summer Glau's experience in this type of genre is one of the best to fit the role but she looks the least like Lara.

I don't think there is definately any actress on the poll who shines out, imo, so we have to meet in the middle. Imo, if we narrowed it down to the general all-rounders, I think the best actresses for the role are: Gemma Arterton, Ellen Page and Talulah Riley. Neither of them look exceptionally like Lara while neither have has much experience in the action/thriller genre as the likes of Summer Glau and Lyndsy Fonseca but I think all three could do a good job in playing Lara. For those who doubt Ellen Page's ability to do a posh English accent, I belive she was originally set to play as Jane in "Jane Eyre" but was dropped for personal reasons.
