Default Blackjack 2.0 - VOTE!!!

Our friend CGREGgo, has asked me to create this poll for him...in order to see if fellow taffers want a special blackjack which will be able to knock-out the undead...We affectionately have known this to be called "Blackjack 2.0".

What do you think about this idea?...and do you think it will improve or hurt the game?

Undead are resistant to blunt force trauma and can't be knocked out. That's why they are unique enemies. By giving the player a weapon that they can knock the undead out, you negate one of the things that makes them unique from standard human guards as enemies.

So no. No special blackjack.

I forget, was it clarified whether or not the undead would stay down or could they get back up like zombies would after getting knocked down with a backstab?

Either way, my answer is still no--whatwith flashbombs, fire arrows, backstabs, and holy water making life a lot easier already in different situations.

Apparitions and Haunts would stay down if backstabbed. Zombies obviously could always get back up.

Yeah. I'm getting tired, I kept typing "undead" and changed one instance to "zombies," but forgot the other, thinking about other things, before posting!

If such feature is implemented, I'll pretend it doesn't exist.

If you could. Hopefully the game would let you. Otherwise, it's back to asking for the SDK/Editor!

How about going into a mission with NOTHING! Goal = steal at least 75% of the loot.

Last I checked there was no requirement to use equipment during a mission.

"Last I checked there was no requirement to use equipment during a mission."

Yes, but something would always be in the way & having to kill/knock it out to get thru a door would happen.

If they put a rock or something there to pick up & throw to cause a noise to draw him away from the door then OK...

From the other thread...

That's the realistic element I spoke of. If you were to go rob a bank in the real world, you wouldn't see any zombies in it. After all, the game is called "thief" and stealing is the mission. Different strokes for different folks they say, huh?

We all have our different styles & flavors.

This doesn't have to do with different styles, THIEF is set in a different universe.

I guess you've never ghosted a Thief mission before. You do know that it's possible to get through the entire first game of the series without knocking out, killing or even harming any enemies the entire game while still getting every ounce of loot, right?

Yeah, I know, those were my favorite missions. And if they're in the castles, they're even better imo (from other thread).

Hey guys (or gals), it was nice chatting with you all again! It's past my bedtime, lol.

Thanks for taking my handcuffs off whoever was responsible for letting me back in!

Peace everyone!

What do you mean "those missions?" All three games can be played the same way all the way through. It's possible to ghost all three games. It's not particular missions, it's a play style.

undead were meant to be dealt with in other ways - and I'm pretty sure there's not a functioning brain to KO them with. Plus, we already have a KO in the powerful sword strike that disrupts whatever energy is animating them.

Who the hell resurrected this ridiculous argument? Shall we also discuss the laser weapons that Garrett always used in Thief 1?

It'd be boring. Things like undead and fireballs and evil statues provided something to use your other fun stuff on.

Oh, I hadn't noticed you where back again cGREGgo, welcome back my friend!

When I saw this thread's title I thought it was an old thread that was resurrected but it's an entirely new one. You know I'm behind you on this one. For all that is holy implement blackjack 2.0!

Or don't, but make an easter egg reference to it. Like a wall scribble in a cave or a drawing on a piece of paper, something like that. Thief IV will feel empty without blackjack 2.0 after what this forum has been through.

That would be awesome: the mad scientist tried to make an Undead blackjack but ended up turning himself into an exploding frog :P

btw, i agree with MasterTaffer here. A blackjack for the Undead would just equate them to humans, which means you can use the same strategy on them, which means less creativity and less variety in the game.

EDIT: I wouldn't mind if it knocked them down and they just rose up again to hunt you though, like it happened with the sword :P you could do this if you were trapped, but knowing you'd have an Undead on your trail.

I already hate to be able to kill undeads with a sword. Now K.O. them? Thanks but I'll pass.

you don't KILL them... that would just be redundant... you kinda just whack em so hard that they lay down and play dead for a bit just so you'll feel safe and get close and they can ambush your ankles...

EDIT: on a side note, I would really love it if the undead didn't just get up from laying down if you got too close in this game (assuming we have undead), but instead attack from prone at first and then get up once you leave their attack range.

Zombies, yeah, but not ghosts, apparitions, or Haunts, which "undead" encompasses.

Hamdryiad--just think zombies, and forget the rest. The zombies alone are the real intent of the blackjack 2.0.

Undeads cant be knocked down.

Its just like saying that you should be able to knock down a robot. Or the wall.

You can tore it to pieces, but not knock it down.

Knocking down = causing enough trauma onto a target, forcing it to lose counsciousness. Since zombies arent conscious (as they are an animated corpse), they cannot be knocked down.

If they had consciousness, they would be able to talk, for example. Or recognize objects and think.
