As the title says, here's the new Superman for Zack Snyder's reboot:
![]() Quote:
![]() Henry Cavill in the upcoming Immortals From the IGN article here: http://movies.ign.com/articles/114/1146814p1.html He obviously needs to put on the muscle mass from now until he dons the tights and cape, but maybe he'll work. I really haven't seen him in anything to comment either way... Edit: looks like this is a duplicate thread. Please close it, or merge it. My Apologies.

Well he might not be A-list actor but he definatly looks like Superman and Clark Kent, so here's hoping for the best.

Yeah, that pic from the Immortals movie there really does feel like the features of Superman, from older comics (meaning, awesome ones, heh).

Cavill was really good as Charles Brandon in The Tudors. I think he'll make a fine Superman/Clark Kent.
I didn't think Routh did a bad job in the last one either.

He's too young & too small. Sure it'll be good though.

Christopher Reeve was 24 when they started filming Superman. Cavill will most likely be 28 when Man of Steel starts shooting, or at youngest be a few months from 27.
As for size, while we all want Batman and Superman to be 6'4" like our heroes Clint Eastwood and John Wayne, thats not always a possibility.

He's 6'1", and he needs to bulk up, yes. However, if they pick actors otherwise that are shorter than him, it automatically makes him look taller, or some slight CGI, or even camera angles will add to the illusion that he's taller. I think if he's able to put on the right muscle mass, the rest will be easy to make happen. Film is all about illusion. Since Humphrey Bogart (5'8") in Casablanca stood on the apple boxes to be taller than Paul Henreid (6'3"!), or in other movies with Lauren Bacall (5'81/2"), along with other camera angles and false floors, etc, Hollywood is well-versed at making people look taller, or shorter for that matter (Lord of the Rings) than they really are.

Theres also false perspective, which would have him stand closer to the camera relative to everyone else in the scene to create the illusion of him being bigger.

Shame, I was hoping Brandon Routh would get the gig again ... he was the only good thing in Superman Return IMO

It's hard to tell with Routh, because they didn't give him any good lines, or hardly any lines at all, nor anything to really do expressive-wise. He was pretty wooden, but that was due to nothing happening...
He was also forced to be too thin by Singer, though they had computer models with his body type of what he would look like were he to bulk up under what he could have done. Singer opted for a thin Superman, because Superman doesn't need the bulk, according to him, to be super... And the costume he had to wear was horrid, but that wasn't his fault either. He wasn't good as Superman, but it's very hard to say that was his fault. It was the director, primarily, using bad designs and a crappy story. However, the story was so bad and the results so poor in people's minds, there was no way they were going to go with Routh in another try.

Like I have said in some previous posts, Superman should be really buff, I did mention Schwarzenegger at his prime buff, but I understand that's not exactly realistic. But it should be somewhat near the edge of ridiculousness. Of course I would prefer the 6'4" but that can be achieved with film tricks. I don't know about you guys but I always imagined Superman like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Superman.jpg
However I will not judge until I see the movie. |

I don't know, with some clever wardrobe choices, I'm sure they could give the appearance of someone who isn't a full on tank.

Gary Frank's work is closer to how I think Superman should (and can) look in live action: ![]() While Jim Lee's Superman is drawn 8 heads tall, Frank's is drawn seven and a half heads tall, which is closer to the proportions for a very athletic man (the average height is 7-7.5 heads tall). Of course, even Jim Lee's characters are shorter than the traditional Marvel characters, who were drawn to be 8 and three-quarters heads tall (!!!).

Nolan on Superman
He's excited for Zack Snyder, and there was another article where it was said Nolan got to know Henry Cavill when he auditioned for Batman Begins (as Batman), so he probably left a very good impression on him. @Old Ben: Definatly agreed on the Gary Frank Supes, and we already know Goyer is inspired by Geoff Johns' Supes on the film, so why not just get more inspiration thru the art aswell? Sure Gary Frank got abit creepy when child-Kent got to look like a lil'Christopher Reeve.

Interviewer: "All this big stuff, do you ever just want to sit down and do a little romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston?"
Nolan (look of disgust under the smile): "Not really..." haha
