Light blue would have so looked fantastic and would have strengthened the parrallel between this outfit and the original. As a big classic TR fan I would have been quite joyful. Maybe we could get that is an unlockable or DLC perhaps.

This is exactly the sort of idea's that it's great to hear you say.

This not as much. The grey is so generic and conformist which is so the opposite of Lara. It's like dressing a punk up as a pixie - an uncomfortable mix. I understand your reasons but wish you had stuck more with the initial thought. I just want to get her out of that grey and in to something more Lara-esque (if that is even a word). If the outfit choice in the context of a single game then it's okay but not if it's sneaking in perminant de-stylisation via a backdoor. I would love to see a shift back towards more clever unique TR legend style costumes like dresses and biker jackets.

Colors are important, Dino

How would you feel if this forum suddenly went from an all black to an all white skin? You wo....oh wait, I said too much

From what I read in Brian's post, Lara's clothing style indeed seems to be aimed for this origins story. So in the games following, we might see more of Lara's classic look again, albeit perhaps in a lesser degree as some of the hardcore fans would wish for, hehe.

---
Ps. I moved the recent discussion about Lara's looks in Brian's thread to this one, the official "Lara's new look & body" discussion thread.

A splash of colour would have raised the whole look alot. Get it away from looking just a little too much like a prison outfit. Still nice to hear Brian's logic though

I'd like to see Lara in a skirt instead of shorts or pants.

I'm not sure what's WRONG with wanting to see Lara in a skirt at some point? Girls have been known to wear them, you know!

Much as I love Lara Croft, I will not be getting this game unless there is a costume unlock at the end that allows me to replay Lara as I know her....tank top or sexy top, and short shorts. Sorry, but that's the Lara I know and love.

I can appreciate the need for Lara to look realistic and conservative and all that, and I love the character for her brains, but I guess I just love old school Lara. I also understand that this is supposed to be a reboot and a "how Lara came to be" game...but...I still hope there's a Classic/Legend/Underworld costume unlock at the end.

Not trolling...just stating my opinion. I respect everyone else's views in here toward Lara's new direction.

Thank you so much for responding to my concerns. Your ideas are well thought out. Ultimately though the problem is the conclusion. It ends up as dressing the pioneer of women in gaming in plain boys clothes which still just feels so wrong to me. Whilst much of the reboot looks great that outfit I find just doesn't.

I too would just LOVE to see a more 'Lara style' outfit included and would even pay as much as the game again to buy a DLC that brings that. Don't worry about your oppinion being seen as trolling Lord Martok. A lot of people do share your viewpoint, myself included.

@Flint

I see where you're coming from, but realistically if I were to go hiking or on an expedition I would choose very similar clothes to what Lara's wearing in this reboot.

Jeans can be uncomfortable while climbing, and shorts aren't exactly flexible for that either. Khaki's would be my number one choice. Seeing as she's British as well, I could totally see her visiting a Black's shop.

The colour's also suit - I would choose something bland cos I know it'll get dirty anyway, but on top of that I would still choose a cool colour, and grey is a colour I'm into at the moment; bear in mind that I'm a 21 year old female also :3

*should be studying rofl*

Unless there is something else you don't like about the new TR, I don't see your views as understanding unless you are just trying to be over-dramatic to get a reaction out of the team to make her outfit more sexier, which I think will be a futile attempt. I can understand where some of you are coming from with this but not buying the game just because she isn't wearing skimpy little shorts that wouldn't make the story look believeable at all is just incomprehensible to me.

This being a reboot im not sure they will include the old costumes, if they are trying to break from the old to make a new it wouldnt make sense to keep bringing in old costumes,
maybe in a later game when she is more established but it wouldnt make sense to have it in this game

i know where you are coming from though

Exactly!!! And I also agree with your previous post, not buying the game just because of what Lara's wearing is really something hard to understand...

Like I said, I respect everyone's opinions here.

Not trying to be over dramatic, m'lady ...just stating my personal preferences.
I suppose I could buy the game anyway, just to be a completionist (after all, I do have the dismally failed "Angel of Darkness").

I refused to go and even see the second Tomb Raider movie because of Jolie's position on the whole "short shorts" deal. Any chick can wear a bathing suit, but to be able to pull of Lara's looks in the Anniversary/Legend/Underworld shorts outfits, that takes a special lookin' chick. Illyne, Tiphaine, Miss Larissa Croft, now there's a few cosplayers who can definitely pull it off (at least the look...if not the accent) with some authority! Karima Adebibe is an actress, and she was the official TR: Legend model....I wish they could've gotten her for the third movie.

Part of my aversion to this is a result of DC Comics doing the same thing to Wonder Woman, putting her in a pretty much all-concealing costume, and making her look like an 80's Karaoke diva, instead of the sexy, leggy Amazon warrior I've loved all these years. Now, Eidos/CD are doing the same thing to Lara Croft.

Granted, Lara looks a little more like a rough n ready adventurer, or at least, a rough n ready novice adventurer (as the game is supposed to portray her this time around) as opposed to the new Wonder ('80's Karaoke Diva) Woman...so the realism factor is definitely there. I will admit I am anxious to see how they bring across this more vulnerable, less experienced Lara Croft.

This is probably one of the few things I am actually fanboyish about.

When Battlestar Galactica was remade, I loved it, right alongside the classic series. Some classic fans didn't.

When Star Trek was remade, I loved it, right alongside the classic series. Some fans didn't.

As for this game, well, I dunno, we'll see, but I might end up falling into the "some fans didn't" category this time around. If Eidos/CD does include the costume replay feature (ala Legend) then they'll have kept a Tomb Raider fan who has been there since the beginning. If not, well...the game might be worth a rental at best for this long time TR fan.

I want my Lara Croft. I'm not entitled to it, but I certainly want it.

It's as simple as that.

Respectfully,
Lord Martok

P.S. Thanks, Flintmelody, for your reply as well. Glad to know there are still some "gimme my Lara" fans out there.

^ I respect your opinion on Lara's outfit but how can that alone be reason enough to not enjoy the game!??!?
If this turns out to be the best TR game in terms of story and gameplay, are you saying you won't like it unless the classic outfit/outfit selection makes an appearance?!??

I might be mistaken, but didn't Lara wear khaki pants while exploring home in classic series?

I expect that would be a bit unfair. I'm sure the story and game play will be great. But, without the costume replay features to bring me the Lara I want to see, it would make the title, at best, a rental for this long time TR fan.

I'm sure there are a lot of us out there who want the Lara we know and love, at least in terms of appearance. It would be a win-win for all involved. Eidos/CD gets players to experience Lara the way they'd like her to be experienced this time around, but by adding in the costume replay features (ala Legend), the old schoolers get the Lara they want (in terms of familiar looks)....they just have to beat the game first, Eidos/CD's way.

It's why I don't support Wonder Woman comics anymore. They covered her up. They changed the Wonder Woman I loved (loved ever since Linda Carter graced the small screen with her portrayal of WW...although I hated her diving outfit! She had the perfect bathing suit already...hahahaha.)

Sometimes it was sweatpants, I think.

The original concept for Lara, even with the very first game years ago, had her wearing pants in her primary adventure. But, me being a leg man, I'm glad they switched the concept to short shorts.

I really like the new Lara Croft. It'd be a dream to see the Classic Lara Croft outfit as an extra unlockable.

I agree entirely. I DID say 'at some point', after all

The guy who originally said he'd like to see Lara in a skirt didn't specify when, either. Can't speak for him, but I was thinking future games & around the mansion, not in the field. And certainly not if she's going to be doing all the usual athletic stuff. That would be incredibly impractical.

BUT - the idea of Lara in a skirt, in the right environment, is by no means a bad one.
