Official new Lara's voice & VA discussion thread

It'll be interesting to see what kind of voice they get. Will it be a tough, throaty sort of voice like Angelina's Lara? Or with a slight plum in her mouth like classic Lara? Or something new? She could even have a tough inner city London voice for all I know.

I just hope it's not American. Lara should be British. Also I hope they go for someone younger to accentuate the "new" Lara but not too young and naive like the last person who voiced Samus Aran in the last Metroid game.

I love the way Jonell sounds. She can sound young - was really good in tr4 and trc AND she can sound badass. Has this classiness to her voice. REally great

But we are getting someone new, so I would like someone like that ^ like Jonell Elliot

I kind of like the idea of Carey Mulligan doing it. I think she'd make a great 'Young Lara'. Perfect accent and excellent acting skills.

I want it someone unknown to me. I definitely don't want to hear Claudia Black or someone I recognize from 10 other things. There's this thing called "immersion" that tends to break when that happens.

Claudia Black also has far, far too deep a voice. I love her acting and voice/accent, but on voice alone, she's definitely 30's-40's, or even older-sounding. This is the teenage Lara here...

Last time I checked, Keeley Hawes was no longer going to provide the voice of Lara Croft (fair, since her voice wouldn't really be believable for a 21-year-old-fresh-out-of-college Tomb Raider) and several "unknown" voice talents were being "trialed" to take her place.

Not only was Keeley Hawes a perfect fit for Lara's voice, but she'd actually done some acting work outside of videogame voice work. I think the new Lara should also have at least some acting chops to take her place.

My suggestion for the new game would be Gemma Arterton. She's a little too "big" to count as an unknown, but she's actually got a little bit of clout in the acting world, and her voice would be perfect for Lara: English, youthfull, and sexy as hell.

My vote goes to Gemma Arterton. She may be more famous than what they're looking for, but she's an actual actress, and she's got a unique voice that's young, sexy, and English.

I'm going to try listening to her voice without watching her picture and see what I think. I thought her head girl in St. Trinian's was fairly Lara like, but I don't know what it'd be like with just the soundtrack. A voice artist doesn't necessarily have to look like Lara.

Here's the problem.

I was born and live in England and I'd seen Keeley in quite a number of things way before Legend. She's pretty cool. Then she got the part in the TV series Ashes to Ashes... this I watched before and fell in love with before I bought Legend.

So upon hearing her voice in Legend Lara Croft then became Alex Drake. Understand where I'm coming from?

i just hope that the replacement voice actress doesn't sound too young. i mean i get that lara's 21, but i think her vocal chords should be well adjusted to puberty by that point.
