For ME, it's not the writing as such that interested me, because lets face it, Bioware use every cliche in the book for their games, at least on a plot level. Instead, it's the memorable character design + conversations, the subtle humour, the music, the locations... and Tali I can see why some people hate it, but I honestly get DX-like shivvers every time I first play a ME game and it's one of the few games where I prefer the actual universe itself rather than the gameplay, if that makes sense. Combat got a little better in ME2, but it was still quite weak.Incidentally, I thought the actual writing in Uncharted and it's sequel especially were fantastic. Good characters, witty little verbal battles between the main players and effective humour. Drake is a likeable character and when you combine it with the incredible locations, neat puzzles, decent combat and perfect controls, it's very clear why it got GOTY. I never could understand the dissenters for that game, because for TPP adventure games, it is near-flawless in my opinion. |

You should have said in the other thread you wanted to move the discussion. I nearly missed it.
You're idea seems nice to me. I have nothing against cover, actually I am rather all in as long as it's done without TPP and without providing indication of where the baddies are. Get this idea in the game, remove the radar in max difficulty, playtest the whole thing and you've got me in as a buyer ;-) |

Where is the radar people are talking about? Can it be seen in the most recent gameplay trailer?

Ok thanks.
Yea I dont like the idea of radar either. But I'm pretty confident it will be turned off in the Deus Ex difficulty. |

Maybe where we disagree is that I think in practice 1st person stealth might not end up that different to how it felt in the first game.

Try Dragon Age, the characters in that are as good if not better than the ones in ME. Sigh, Morrigan... why!

You know that Planescape is a D&D setting, right? It's just as much fantasy as Baldur's Gate.

True. I can't stand the actual...you know...D&D parts of D&D games. Why use a computer to simulate a pencil and paper?

Knowing that it is part of one augmentation upgrade i wouldn't say so. Radar is one of starting augmentation and you will be able to upgrade it. I don't think they will limit augmentations by removing them when you increase difficulty.

Jerion, is there any chance we see this implemented in the release ?

^ No. You either use 3rd person cover, or you make the best use of the crouch key you can, and that's it.

Or you don't buy the game. Don't forget that one !

Personally don't expect any change from now, and even when we requested these changes, people made many threads for that, even when the changes could be possible at the time.
This is probably too late ...

Are you serious?
Would you not buy the game just because it has cover system? Did you played Deus Ex just because it had lean keys? Jesus Christ Denton.

The best thing to do now is spread the word after the game's release. Maybe drum up a little support and gain some traction. See, I'm assuming that DX:HR sells well, giving rise to a sequel. But I would also like a first-person cover system (or, as a compromise, the option to turn off TP cover) in said game.
Any online review from the mainstream gaming press that has a comments section? Pow! State how the product could be improved. Appeal to their artistic integrity. Saying "third-person cover smokes pole" won't achieve anything in any case. |

Yeah, as I mentioned, I just couldn't get into it at all. Mainly because of the fantasy environment, which is also the reason I snubbed Planescape Torment and The Baldurs Gate series. They're just not my kind of games (and I was rocking a pretty ghetto PC at the time they were released, so that was no fun either)

Cover systems affect level design, enemy AI, gunplay mechanics and typically indicate a larger overarching design mentality. So yes, I'd easily pass on a game because of a cover system if it didn't show me some absolutely amazing features that both made up for the cover system, and went against the stereotypical cover based game design.

Again, I'm just in awe of wtf's on this forum today. You've played the game, which is by the way in very late development state, and know how the game behaves, and come out with a "cover proposal"? What's the purpose of this topic else than an incentive to break ToU?

The cynic in me would read it as "I played the game, but the TPP cover system was annoying so here is my suggestion for how it would work better", which again would be quite silly, mainly because the game is too late in development to change and well... it's like a public damning of the whole system. In reality, I just think he's giving a suggestion for how he'd personally improve it *if* time allowed it, to appeal to those who prefer a first person stealth solution. I just wish he'd have told them this when he was actually there. Maybe he did? |
