Would you sacrifice a healthy, fully operational organ/limb in order to get mechanical one instead? Which one shall it be?

Yes. If I had to pick just one, it would by my arms, as I have a tendency to pinch the nerves near my elbows, and I'm a gamer which means my wrists crystalised long ago.
Plus, I have nice legs.

My eyes probably, since they suck anyway. And maybe some bones, for ones that don't click with every move.

If it were possible I'd replace my whole body save my brain (like GiTS).
The dice weren't in my favor when God rolled my physical attributes. But barring that, I'd probably replace my legs, spinal cord, heart, eyes, and maybe my arms. |

(I wanted to add a poll, but they said only 10 mins after posting, so no poll today
)I wouldn't let them to cut my arm or leg. I love them. I'd go for new eye lenses or retinas, since my eyes suck. No big sacrifices, subtle enough.

My "beer keg" replaced with an actual beer keg. (Six-packs are for sissies.)
But seriously: Enhanced vision, taste and smell (not hearing - I dunno why... I just like my own hearing). Those I could go for. Computer jack. Maybe some Shadowrun-style slots for skillsofts. I don't think I'd like anything that alters my appearance too much. It's not that I'm vain (I'm not exactly a model), but I'm pretty happy with the way I look.

If they worked as well as they do in HR, I'd go for at least one arm. Not sure I like the idea of surgeons poking around my eyes so might leave them as they are until I get old and they get a bit out of whack, but at least one arm. Then I could make millions by lending my services as a jam-jar opener.

Eyes for sure, and I have 20/20. To be able to see through walls would be amazing, but even just the way they glow in the trailers and how the "pupil" adjusts itself is just badass.

I'm too much of a conspiracy theorist to ever let some corporation replace my arms/legs/anything with enhanced ones. Unless of course I was the one in charge of the corporation (like Bob Page or something).
They probably install killswitchs or mind control augs without telling you. |

I'll wait for nano augs and keep my limbs.

Yes and I will keep my old legs and arms in formaldehyde on the mantelpiece, and get some special lighting underneath them to freak out my guests.
All my limbs are in pretty good nick really. I'm pretty "attached" to my right arm, so that's staying with me, but I'm not so bothered about my legs which I unfortunately inherited from my father. |

I think I'd do some research first. Ask a few people who'd already been augmented if they're happy with their choice. But yeah, definitely open to it. As long as they're warm.

Fancy carbon-nanotube "look at me!" augs from Human Revolution? No way.
GitS style augs? Yes please. // yes, I would be willing to give up functioning limbs/my body to replace them with superior mechanical equivalents. Last edited by miraclecure_; 12-04-2010 at 05:41 PM. |

If I can replace my two arms with 4 mechanical ones of equal or better strength and dexterity, yes, I'd totally go for that.

If I could only get one I would get a replacement heart which is more efficient and doesn't tire out.

Hell yeah I'd get augmented. Vision, arms, heart, etc. Snoogans.

I'm having a root canal and crown aug on tuesday, and I did originally aks the dentist to drill into the good teeth to create bridges at the back of my mouth, but the cost was prohibitive - I'll wait till they decay. I lost all my front four teeth to calcium deficiency as a teenager and the bridge there has shown no sign of decay for over 20 years.
I also love SCUBA, so I'd love to be able to switch on a mechanical gill that enabled my body to extract oxygen from the water for respiration allowing me to dive without the present time limits. Fins are temporary augs anyway, but eyes that din't need an airspace in front of the in order to see would be great. Slightly off topic - a holidaymaker had their arm bitten off by an Oceanic White-tip in Egypt just after I'd got back from there this week - I wonder if gattling gun is on the list of replacement prosthetics? http://goafrica.about.com/b/2010/12/...eikh-egypt.htm |

I'm on the kidney transplant list. I'm not sure if a mechanical kidney is a possibility, but sure why not.

If the failure rate of the operation and parts is extremely negligible, and funding wasn't an issue, I'd be interested.

![]() todays tech provides a bunch of options for inner bodyparts and researchs for lighter, flexible autocontroled exo-replacements. first of all, i would choose memory-expander ...like johnny m. but a bit saver, please ... that could beat my annoying forgetfulness... everthing else? i think, if you become handicapped and you could change that; you would do it. How big is the step to think further and upgrade a funktioning part with a much better one ? it's a mindgame and any guaranteed advantage will win...
