Bull. This kind of thing just seems to say "HEY, DON'T BUY OUR GAME!" in massive letters. I very nearly didn't buy Mafia II for these reasons.

Why must game developers insist on trying my patience? I don't remember the Baldur's Gate II exclusive pre-order character class...why don't they just leave their game be? I'm not buying DLC, so that means that I'll never have a remote detonated mine or grenade launcher. Thank you, EM. I shall take great pleasure in modding in my own, assuming you even have the grace to allow modding.

It depends how much functionality the un-upgradeable weapon already has built in, doesn't it? In any case, the remote detonator already seems like it will be pretty useful.

On reflection, at least the new weapons are just more powerful versions of existing ones, rather than being *the* sniper rifle or *the* grenade launcher.

That does not make this practice any less abhorrent. Whoever it was that was talking about "good value for money", I ask: where have you been on the PC modding scene these last 10 years or so?

WOW, ok, ok, Hold up.

Before I go out and start raping and murdering people over this, let's be sure that EM isn't sucking major balls first.

Now the pre-order weapons. I hoping this is basically the same thing in BF:BC 2 where you can get the weapons right from the start if you pre-order. But even if you don't pre-order you should still be able to find those weapons in game, it's just going to be harder.

10 extra dollars is the perfect price point for the Augmented Edition (It's the collectors edition right?) That to me shows that EM isn't as money grabbing as Evil Arts and they actually know who the hell there selling the game too.

As with the extra mission, if this gets relased as DLC and it's less then $5, I'll be OK.

However if the pre-order weapons aren't in the game. If the Extra Mission is $20 dollors. If the Augmented Edition isn't the Collectors Edition...

I don't know what I'm gonna do. But this will surly drive me mad. I might just lose all control and start shooting. I mean really. EM you're pushing me off the edge, I might just crack.

Edit: I should also mention I'm most upset about the Double Barral shotgun. I want that gun, but I don't want to pay 80 bucks for it. It should be in the game, just hidden.

I know. I thought that, too. Pound to a penny they don't support modding either.

That doesn't register the game with steam, so you'd still have to insert the disk.

I can understand why some of you are upset but you have two choices. Pre order from Gamestop and get the grenade launcher, exclusive mission, explosive, and one time use unlocking device. Pre order from Amazon or any other retailer and get the sniper rifle, double barrel shotgun, and 10k extra credits.

Gamestop probably payed to have this exclusive, otherwise why would Squaresoft and Eidos give it to them. It's all part of business, no reason to be upset. If you had a company you would want to secure an edge and this is what Gamestop has done.

I'll probably get it from Amazon though since I have gift cards. As for the extra mission someone out there will figure out how to add it into the game =P. If not it will probably be DLC.

.
Actually we have a third choice: don't put up with this kind of rubbish, buy the game normally, and then work out how to mod it if that's possible and we even want the new stuff. It might prove unbalanced or just stupid, after all.

Buy the game normally and not pre order? You would waste the same amount of $ either way. They want to reward people that pre order. Pre ordering is important because companies gauge the interest of a game for it's possible sequel. The more a game sells the more likely the developers can secure a contract for the sequel. You do want a sequel if the game is good right?

This game deserves to do good. It does thing many other games do not in this main stream industry. I'm pretty sure you are all aware so I won't bother explaining. The point is how many of these type of games are out there? Not many. Therefore I will gladly pre order this little gem.

Or torrent the game and get everything.

It's practices like these that encourage pirating.

What really hurts is that they aren't even in the same package. Buy one, lose what the other has... Why.

i just don't understand why publishers are so stupid and work together with gamestop etc at all. They get those stupid bonus dlc exclusivity and than they rip off publishers by selling the same copies of game over and over again as used copies and publishers/developers don 't get even a penny from all that.

He hates you, Angel. In fact, he plans to launch multiple, simultaneous deep strikes on your very home this very instant.

Yes, this is true. It's also what encourages boycotts.

Still, I don't want to want to see EM doing stuff that encourages piracy. I want to see them doing stuff that seems fair to both them and the consumer.

Kyle can you just tell us that the pre order weapons are in the regular edition, but you don't get them from the start if you don't pre-order. I really need to hear you say this about now.

Sounds like excuses for pirating a game to me. If you can't afford the game when it launches wait like 1 or 2 years and it will be around $10-$20. This has been proven to be a fact for many PC games. Even less times if the PC game does not sell well.

The Club from SEGA went to $5 in 6 months or less from it's release on Ebay. A seller was selling it for 99 cents with $3.99 shipping. Simply put there is NO EXCUSE for pirating games. Especially when they are available second hand for really cheap.

Anyway enough about this piracy crap, I don't want this thread to get locked!

I think that's hyperbole. I doubt most people are going to skip the game just because they won't get a specific weapon or mission without paying extra.

It's not about not being able to afford the game, it's about the fact that it's impossible to get everything legitimately.
I plan on buying the Augmented edition. But if I don't get both pre-order exclusives, I don't feel any regret about torrenting the missing content. They've already gotten my $60.

I am a hardcore fan of Deus Ex, and I'm not turned off its latest rendition just because I won't get a slightly cooler sniper rifle. If you are, well, that's your choice, not mine.

People are scared because they think they don't get those extra weapons at all in the full version of the game. But they are wrong, right?
