Thumbs up Thoughts and discussion about the GOOD things in Deus Ex Human Revolution

I´m a bit tired of reading about all the bad things that MIGHT come out of this prequel. I´m a DX1 fan, and i´m not that worried about the new prequel. Sure, the third-person perspective during takedowns and coversystem did make my eye grow a tear in form of a bioelectric cell BUT, it actually looks ok. Though I can't understand their thinking about that.. what can be cooler than to push Adams wrist/elbow blades into the enemys chest in first-person? The coversystem is understandable, but it could have been duable in first person aswell. But they had the argument about tactic advantage.

Anyway, biggest hopes and beliefs about this game that I have is actually the gameplay. Sure, I haven't played it but I saw a gameplay footage live at a "press-meeting" and I can tell ya, it looks freekin awsome. They really, really want to give the DX1 fan boys a strong welcome.

Anyways, some small things that I like about this game:

* the targeting system, that shows an orange line around the object for the summary of the size, shape and form.

* The weapons looks incredible, and it appears robust, realistic and actually give a nice effect to the enemy and the world-objects around them.

* The atmosphere seems dark, mysterious and gloomy. It also appears to be molecules and dust in the air that performs as a realistic and Deus Ex like environment. Don't know if this is permament/static smoke or whether it comes from the smoke of guns and bullets hitting different surfaces.

* The protagonist in the game, Adam Jensen. He reminds me of an older brother, a true friend that always tries to take care of all others before himself. Dunno, just a feeling. I like the dude. AND, the voice acting is truly a relief from my side. Alex Denton in IW sounded like an snobbish teenager who just couldn't make is mind up about anything. I hated him

* The sound which includes music, sound effects and speech sounds pretty good. But I want to hear more before I can make up my mind.

I can wright all night, but it's 00:31 here in sweden now and I gotta work early tomorrow.. sorry for the bad english, don't write so much in english anymore.

NOW, let me read your thoughts about this game!

- weapons look good (without the counter)
- the streets seen in the gameplay-trailer look great (although it shouldn't have the golden/bronw filter)
- pro or contra Transhumanism makes for interesting questions/decisions
- Adam looks approriate in my opinion (not as "streamlined" as Alex Denton)
- aug-upgrade system looks promising
- music ranges so far ranges from tolerable to intriguing
- some of the characters we've seen so far do look interesting
- hacking seems improved

You know it's always the members with less than ten posts who makes these. It's their first instinct after browsing the place. All the potent negativity... makes you want to do something about it.

They'll learn.

Agreed on all subjects, but this golden/orange/brown filter thing, don't you think it's acceptable in the long term? I didn't even notice it until you guys made me pessimistic :P

Maybe, but I have been reading this forum since... um, 2007 i think. Just never registered my own username, cause i always read forums, never answers the threads.

I do know that there are other threads about the same thing, but never read anything good there. I wanted to see more.

I fear it will be annoying and inappropriate especially in the long term. It's too much, it's also in areas where it's not the ideal choice.

True, let's hope for an SDK or anyone good enough to mod in that size without SDK.. which means hacking

Also matches the definition for scientific research.

Not at all. An experiment is designed to either refine a measurement or to find a contradiction. Either one requires a change to procedure.

Everybody needs a mad scientist once in a while. But, yeah, this thread is overdone.

There are good things about Human Revaluation, but that's not importent when you're making Citizen Kain 3.

It's too early to tell... wait until you play the game before you make posts like these. This is all speculation.

Exactly. We don't do speculation on this forum.

It's not hypocritical. It's good sense. If you assume the best too early, you'll get disappointed. If you assume the worst too early, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Plus, it keeps devs on their toes. Once the game is out, we'll give credit where it's due. Right, now cool skepticism or moderate pessimism are the best approaches.

Skepticism is probably generally a good trait, i'm not so sure about pessimism though.

The art design/direction is superb. Love how some screenshots look like a painting or a piece of concept art.

Also the design of the weapons, the death animations look great.

I better prepare myself for the worst than to see only good things in the game. You know, in that way if the game will be bad, well, i won't be really disappointed because i already new that and expected that outcome but if game will actually be good or even great, well more joy for me. I have learned with IW and a lot more other games that I better need to expect less than more from games. That way developers/games actually can surprise me more in a good way.
All in all, I see this topic pointless

I usually don't try to artificially get my expectations down by focusing on the bad things only. I much prefer to get the bigger picture so I need to see and realize both sides, the good and the bad.
