Problems with menu (Deus EX GOTY)

I have no menu options. I have the graphics for a menu, but there's no words. I hear the bleeps when I use the arrow keys to scroll around, but the options are just not visible.

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5770 Driver software 10.8

I'm having the same issue and using the same video card as you on Win7 64. Some people have reported switching to OpenGL fixes this, but that only causes me to get a critical error.
