A patch (of English. Patches, in the sense of conformity, too bugfix) is a correction for delivery from end-user's software or data, for example, to close security gaps, to fix bugs or to retrofit existing functionality not yet. On Microsoft Windows updates and hot this Service Pack, if they consist of several combined patches. The term comes from the time when they effected small adjustments to software on punched cards by punching or agglutination of individual holes.
