Default Autosave Fail/Corruption

My character just died in a fiery plane crash. I subsequently loaded the last autosave, only to find it had 0 locations (e.g. not even the house from the start of the game) and 0% progress. Clearly the autosave was corrupted. This is quite devastating as my last manual save was about 12 hours' game time ago! This issue doesn't appear to be hugely prevalent, but I have seen it mentioned a few times on these forums.

Eidos, there's a pretty damned easy fix for this: use a couple of rotating autosaves. That way you can either load the last autosave, or choose between manual saves and some older autosaves from the "load" menu.

Oh my god. I have SO much ground to cover again. This glitch has taken the fun factor of this game down by about 50%

I'm playing the PC version and I had a (rare) black screen crash but when I restarted, the autosave wouldn't load - saying "save file corrupted" or something similar. I had to go back to a manual save that was about 3 hours old - a long time when you've been doing faction missions & settlements. Lesson learned - do NOT rely on autosave. I only lost a few hours progress but it could have been a lot worse. If your only saved game is the autosave, you are risking having to restart the game from scratch if the save file gets corrupted. Please note that the game is coded to recognise a corrupted file because the message states clearly that the file is corrupted and that you need to load a mnaual save or restart the game. So they do know it can happen .......

Hmmm strange. No error message for me. Oddly enough the autosave did respawn me at the start point of the air race I'd crashed in. Except I couldn't do the race again since neither it, nor any other location was "discovered", and I had no stats etc.

I've just had exactly the same thing and lost about 6 hours of play because of it.

I had just died during an air race (Bridge of Death I think) and when it reloaded all my progress was gone.

Having to repeat that much gameplay is really going to take the fun out of it.

Same bug happened to me yesterday

I also crashed during an air race.

If I find more details I'll post them here.

This really is a game killing bug.

Edit:
The crash was during a 2 star difficulty air race which started near the gunung(sp?) ski resort.
The race isn't available to me anymore atm, so I can't be certain.
I have the PC version btw

Does anyone know how this is even possible?

Isn't this 'cloud' where the savegames are stored supposed to keep this from happening?
Or am I missing something?
