Sorry mate, the game requires Steam. The game installs into Steam documents, not its own one. But if you click the game icon on your dashboard, it will merely just display Steam is opening for about 5 seconds and then you are into the game...

The game uses `Steamworks` which allows things like achievements and that sorta thing.. you can play steam offline however if you are on a laptop say or not able to be online all the time etc.. but you do have to be `online` when you switch to go offline (if that makes sense)

![]() I did not know I could do that. I haven't used Steam in a long time. And I rarely used it back when I got Half-Life 2. I only recently re-installed it for JC2. I'll have to try the offline mode sometime. |

I'm pretty sure if you play offline you can't get achievements as it has to sync to the Steam servers and this will also not register your gamestats on the JustCause.com website
It would be great when you play offline in Steam and you reconnect it immediately updates your stats so you don't loose them. |

If I recall correctly that that is exactly how it works.
If you're offline you still get achievements and stats and they're just kept somewhere locally till you go online and they are all uploaded. |

Normally the Steam game achievement pops up when your online - does this still show during the game offline - as I use this to see if I done an achievement ? A confirmation would be reassuring. |

Thanks CameO73
That is very helpful information for people here and accurately answers my question. I will therefore have to play something else that doesn't use achievements for when I'm away. The first Just Cause comes to mind
