JC2 Demo crash to desktop

After 5-20 minutes, the game stops working and minimizes, leaving me with a nice view of my desktop. The application is still in the taskbar but I am unable to switch back to it. I can right-click and end the application without issue, though no errors are ever shown. Is anyone else having similar issues?

I'm anxious to get this sorted as I have already pre-ordered the game from Steam.

My system specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965
MB: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
OS: Windows 7 x64 Professional
GPU: ATI Saphhire Radeon HD 5850, 1 GB
Video driver version: Catalyst 10.1 (have issues with 10.2 and 10.3a, JC2 crashes even sooner as do several other games, please DO NOT ask me to upgrade =] )

As a follow-up, I tried playing in a window and got the Gray Screen of Death. The game was unable to recover though the application continued to run, and I ended up with a white window that I had to close manually.
