Why doesn't my EAX work?

In the troubleshooting section for this game it says if sounds such as weapons firing are muted then your sound card doesn't support EAX. Turning off EAX in the games option menu will make the sounds play correctly. This works fine, however I DO have an EAX card. I have the Sound Blaster Live Platinum 5.1 so why doesn't the EAX work? This is the first game I've had EAX trouble with. Anybody know why?
