Post Thievery Server

THIEF, the ThieveryUT server, will remain up throughout the week in preparation for making it a 24/7 server.

Since it is a private server, I will not be advertising it anymore. If you do not have the server in your Favorites, you can use the IP and port number to make a new Favorite. Otherwise, you will not see it in the server browser and will have to use Open Location to join.

Have fun, and email/PM me if you have any questions or problems.

Welcome to the Cripple Burrick mOdEtWo!! Yes, it's about time dude. We have a great group of people, just a few things to remember, watch your purse. Bunch of thieves around here.
*Slides him a beer* Chug! Let's play again, soon. Hey when you left last night, the server got full! Hope you can get in when it's full some night. *cheers*

Hi and welcome mOdEtWo, I was all ready to come in and beat you and BA up(or was it the other way around?) last night, but both of you left while I was connecting.

Meanies.

Glad to see you over here mOdEtWo. This board is a lot friendlier than what you have seen at TTLG.

As BA said, several players joined shortly after you left, including myself. The time difference may make it difficult to find a full server, but hopefully things will work out and you can catch some European and Australian players in there.

See you in Thievery!

That's great LM......24\7

The only drawback I see to it being unadvertised is being able to see what taffers are playing there with an easy glance.

Sometimes I'll check and see if anyone is home yet and if not I'll check back later......I guess now we'll just login to find out who's there and who isn't.

Thumbs up

Ok question, you used to advertise it LM. Why stop now? What is your thinking behind not advertising it anymore?
I do the samething that Vesper does, go in to see who is there, anyway. Regardless, I go in. Just curious.

Welcome to the CBI mOdEtWo..Seen ya on the boards over at TTLG.
Now with the server going 24/7 and private. Once I get this map completed we could have a beta-testing party..I'll just rat cam it to keep things fair..

Well Vesper and BA, if the server is listed in your Favorites tab you will still be able to see who is playing. Remember to press F5 to refresh the server(s).

One problem I have noticed with Favorites is that the server will occasionally show as down (9999 ping) when it is up. I believe this to be a problem with Thievery and not UT since I never had the problem with the UT server. The reason is that the Query Port changes from time to time (which is normal). It may be necessary to add the server several times with different QPs to ensure it will show. I would suggest 4 times, with QPs of 8889-8892.

As for why I will no longer advertise, it is a matter of security. With the community still short of servers (servers = <10), mine doesn't get lost in the mix like in UT (servers = 3000+). There have been many players who would guess the password over and over, and if they were to get angry at not being allowed in they could launch a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on it. This would not only take the server down, but it would prevent me from using the internet at all. When I only had the server up 4 nights a week, this was still a concern, but having it up 24/7 makes it more vulnerable. Hopefully one day (when there are a lot more servers) I can advertise it again.

Apache, I will be happy to help you beta-test your map. Just let me know and we can try it during the week sometime.

Wouldn't want you to get a DOS attack LM. It's a shame to know that there are folks out there who do that kind of (erm, I mean stuff) .

I checked the favorites tonight and yes as usuall I got the 9999. I thought it might have been cuz you were unadvertised, didn't know about the Query Port change thingy.

Apache.....Beta test party sounds like fun.....I can bring the party hats, some nice new shiny ones for the guards, and a few nice dark cowls for the thieves.

Thanks for the explanation LM. We do understand, and really, it is a shame that you have to do that. But, in this day and age, one has to protect yourself, and your investment, your computer. You are doing all the Eidos people a great service by hosting your server for us. We all have such a good time. Need to protect that good time. Thanks again.

As for a beta test party! Kick ass! Just what we need! A party to kick off the holiday season. Aaaahhh Apache???
Could you please be sure there are some wine bottles in the mission, so we can toss them at one another! And new Black Jacks with red ribbons tied around them, to crison the new mission with. LOL!

LM, would you mind to PM me your server-IP? I haven't stored it in my favourites yet...

And I have just downloaded the All-Seeing Eye program, so now I can keep track on when you guys are playing (setting up a pager)!

You've got mail (PM actually).

That All-Seeing Eye program is too cool. I will have to look into it some more.
