Lightbulb Level Ideas

Hi, everbody! I have recently been building an Egyptian Level, but I'm out of ideas on what to make the second room. So far, Lara falls threw the ceiling into a chamber. There, the tomb door opens and she begins to explore the tomb. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for puzzles, rooms, and storylines to help me brainstorm up some ideas for the level. I know that there are many creative Tomb Raiders out there so, I hope I will get many creative ideas! Thanks!

make a level where she is trapped in a big maze of rooms that all connect to each other and in every room a trap awaits her and can kill her in the most gruesome way and she has to find the correct room to....oh wait that's a movie

Hmm...interesting. I was thinking making afew rooms that all connect to a main room and each room has a piece of the puzzle to open the door to the tomb. What do you think? Thanks for the idea.

I was wondering...should I make a custom WAD? I thought about so I could combine all textures, objects, and plus I could put custom stuff in it. If I make a custom WAD, will I still be able to work on the level I have been building? Thanks for the ideas and please post more! Thanks.

I like that idea. It's very classic Tomb Raider. I actually did a level like that

I would keep all side rooms open so that the player can freely choose which one to do first, making it non-linear.

http://i49.tinypic.com/20fyjci.jpg

now, the yellow line is the steep floor that lara slides on
the blue lines are the climable walls
the green lines are the stabbing spikes
the brown circle is a boulder

the player must chose the correct jump or be stabbed or bouldered, or dont jump and be stabbed :-) simple really...

Also, I was wondering if you could tell me how to create Triangles or Split Squares becuase I am currently makeing sand in the room before the puzzle hall and I think it would help alot. Thanks again!

how were you going to trigger the spikes next to the last climbable wall?

are you talking about creating custom objects? you need to learn Metasequoia for that (a link to this program can be found in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum)

not sure, when lara grabs the wall, it triggers them to stab her? or maybe they could be above her and drop down?

I haven't got a story but I do have afew good ideas. I was thinking that it could be like a Classic Tomb Raider were it is a straight forward storyline saying she is just looking for an artifact or that she had discovered Cleopatras Tomb. What do you think? Any ideas?

Its not that, but I figured it out anyway. I am almost to the room were the puzzle is to get to the main tomb. I have had some trouble though; how do I trigger a puzzle door to open after she puts the object in the door. Thanks for your help!

Actually, I think it is the object I'm using. Is the PUZZLE_HOLE3 in Tut1.WAD a door or a puzzle hole? Thanks for the help.

it really sounds like you haven't done the tutorial level and read the whole manual. the thing you are asking is covered in the manual

there are no "horizontal triggers". the spikes would trigger as soon as Lara slides over the square

an idea might be to delay the triggering of the spikes, though. you could time how long it takes for the player to jump and grab the wall

I think the problem is that I think PuzzleHole 3 is a door but I think it is actuallya puzzle hole. Is it a puzzle hole?

It sure is a puzzlehole. The name says it already.

Door objects are called DOOR_TYPE** in a wad.

Yes, a straight forward storyline is the best, my idea is that the artifact acts as a key to open any door... so once the artifact is obtained, the player falls through the floor(again) and must get back to the main room, where the player had explored to get the puzzle pieces for a door, that didnt open... but the artifact is used on the door and it opens to reveal a second door, allowing the player to use the pieces, not in that order exactly but something like it? then, the artifact is used to open up the real tomb of Cleopatra, where lara uses the artifact on a magical thingy and it reveals the way out...

Thats a really well thought out idea! Good Job! How would I have the artifact open a door though? Is there any Custom Content or Downloads for it? Thanks for the help and I know this is a stupid question, but I was using the Furniture_2 from Tut1.WAD (the base were you can place artifacts) and I put one of the puzzle pieces on it. When I tested it...she wouldn't grab it. How do I use this object, and is it in the manual. I can't find it. Thanks!

Try this tutorial on picking up objects. It's in the manual somewhere too. Best way to learn the editor is to start at page one and build the tutorial level, step by step

The artifact, would just be a normal key for the door, the story makes it special
and the pickup problem I do insist that you use the manual that George posted :-)

Thanks for the help! I was also wondering if you could tell me how you got a .PRJ file for Lara's Home. I have been playing your Lara's Home Level and it inspired me to build my own House. (More like Editing it with textures and adding objects.) I have downloaded the WAD but they only included the Textures and Objects, etc. I hope you can help. Thanks so much!
