Been reading the last book of the Harry Dresden series. Don't want to spoil things but the title of this thread is a big clue...and it would be cool I think if similar thing happened to Garret in the next game.

I insist that this thread not be closed. In fact, MASSI, I find your statement offensive and wish it deleted.

I'm not the one bumping this thread to the top. I only respond to others who post. This thread may be the most important one on this forum....certainly more important than the "Dishonored" thread.

In fact, I can't believe EM is allowing that one to continue. After all, it does nothing but praise the competition.

The Dishonored thread draws upon similiarities to Thief, that is why it exists. Fans like to discuss and there is nothing wrong with that.
I'm currently playing Dishonored myself and although there are some similarities and nods, Dishnored is not Thief... not by quite a long way, imo.

To express ones feelings, isnt that what the very concept of a forum is based upon? Theres no explicit language in that post nor is its content hateful towards anyone. How can it violate these boards' Terms of Usage? I'm not trying to be a smartass here, I am just genuienly curious.

I think Black-Adder makes a valid point, and I'd like to weigh in.

MASSI was appealing to the moderators when he wanted this thread closed, as I cannot close it myself. This thread is clearly not offensive, otherwise it would have been closed forthwith by the admin. It is only offensive to those who do not agree with it. And to attempt to silence those that one does not agree with harkens back to a much darker time in this world's history.

That is why I said I find MASSI's post offensive and wish he would delete it---which I still do. No, it's not full of crude language or personal attacks, but it does contain an ideology that I feel is dangerous.

Heck, if I had the power to close all the threads that I didn't like, didn't agree with, or had opinions that I despised (ghosting, not killing, etc.) this ENTIRE forum would be shut down.

Dangerous ideology? I fear we are moving into Godwins Law territory at an alarming pace here.
Remember that the medium in wich are communicating does not allow for sarcasm and irony to be displayed as cleary as in real life. I think we should give the defendant the benefit of the doubt here, not immediately come with veiled threats.

However if MASSI's opinion turns out to be in earnest, and he persists with trying to get the thread closed THEN he should be given a fair warning. This is so that people can air their opinions and apply sarcams and irony without the fear of immediate expulsion from the forums.

But I fear I am derailing the thread here, and that I am creating a storm in a glass of water. If you want me to further expand on my opinions regarding the matter, please take it over PM.

The part that is dangerous is trying to silence the opposition because one doesn't agree with their views.

One must entertain both sides, and through civil debate, decide what they feel is the "correct" opinion.

Absolutely. Feelings related to the game; that is... not our personal feelings on the merit of a thread. Someone asked for it to be closed and stated that they find it offensive. If this is a serious complaint, then it is something they should PM the moderation team about to avoid violation of the ToU. That's what I was trying to suggest they do - it was not a veiled threat, just a nudge in the right direction and a reminder of the rules.

I said '...so as not to violate our ToU; not that it has.

My advice to keep these feelings to oneself was an effort to avoid any argument occurring - which is pretty much guaranteed when one person demands another person's thread be closed. You know how it goes. The other party (and/or third-parties) will join in and, before you know it, there is a pointless disagreement going on about the rights of a thread - way off the topic for which it was intended.

It's fine if they were joking and no hateful content was aimed at anyone... but using smilies helps to convey the message that one is only being light-hearted. As someone else has mentioned, it is difficult to work out the emotion behind forum text when smilies are not used.

This thread is still alive, but it's on life support thanks to people like you, Slyfoxx, who keep bumping it back to the top.

I only post in response to others. I say let's pull the plug, I have made my point and backed it up.

18 more posts before I hit the landmark 500 posts. I hope I can achieve that milestone in the only thread I have ever been allowed to create. It will be a party in here when that day comes. I'm thinking early December.
