Insta-death would be cool, but I think casual gamers will be put off by that mechanic.

^ Indeed... Perhaps it could only be applied in the hardest difficulty. Tomb Raider isn't a casual game anyway :P

you know d1n0, what puts ME off is this way of think that you just used Why should they take down from TR a lot of great features only to please casual gamers? And TR fans? in my opinion should think of pleasing TR fans, not casual gamers

Casual players could simply play it on the "easy" difficulty setting which wouldn't have it. Leave instant death to hardcore mode bad-asses like ourselves

I'm simply stating a highly possible truth... Some people don't like to die easily, and since we're living in a Gears of War* generation of gaming, that's become a standard, not getting players angry about somethin in the game that would make them put down the controller.

* - I mean, did anyone saw the gameplay of Gears of War, the guns don't have any recoil at all, you just need to aid and press down the "shoot" button until it's dead or you're out of ammo... No skill involved at all.

Or that, but will they incorporate it? Seriously, though, this is an important question, we already know the optional hints are there, but TR isn't about exploration and puzzles only, there's combat too, and there should be some involvement in that aspect too. I'm going to ask Meagan about this in the upcoming Q&A sessions.

IMO you really should ask her or i'll ask her cause, you know, that would be an awesome feature if it would be on the hardest mode it would make the game more challenging and the fight for lara's life more difficult

@driber: i love how you called us

Talking I think both

As we have seen so far it looks like it's going to be regenerating health like uncharted.. I think it would be good with both. Like you can collect health supplies, and whilst Lara is being cornered and she's about to die (grey screen, thudding heartbeat) you could access a health supply from your inventory to boost the regenerating phase. Who knows what could happen though!

I am hoping for Med packs/ Items for health purposes.
Besides eating foods and using kits and stuff, there can be also items and materials we can pick up and use. Like maybe you can be shot in the arm or leg, and be limping or holding it, until you just picked up A piece of cloth. You can use it then to apply it to the leg/arm and that is realistic, aswell.

I think she had regenerating health in the wii version of underworld.
Here's a hint; Wii Version blows.

regen health would be a pain for realistic style gamers. At least med kits are optional to use. I mean really, if people need health regen in something like this, they might as well play Borderlands 2. the casual market is really bringing down videogame design.

Karl Stewart: We’re not quite ready to get into the specifics of the health system, but as the community noted during our “Descent” demo, Lara’s health will regenerate during combat if she takes cover or gets out of the action. More on that at a later date! [From official forum Q&A session #7 (August/September 2012)
Judging by this, I suspect the health becomes regenerative when she is under attack, which I find in a way, a tad realistic, because when you have adrenaline rushes, dopamine is released and it numbs pain, which may appear as a factor to that.
But, I did see the blood splatters, and they look bad. xD
But when Lara is not in combat, it's... neutral? Not sure, perhaps her health bar is her body?

this actually deosnt sound stupid. in a combat or any threatening situation you are over 100% rushed.
if so, then it should give lara enough strength to walk around but after the combat, she has to take a medpack to regain her full health.
