Default Windows XP support

Hi will Windows XP be supported in this new Tomb Raider, I ask as it seems to be a Square Enix fad atm to only support Vista and above. To me this alienation of loads of XP users isnt really fair even Microsoft themselves are supporting it until 2014 and looking at my calendar we arent there yet.

the specs are not known yet. if XP, then of course you must have the latest updates on it. almost every game today supports mainly vista and win 7. so you would be better off having win 7 on your machine.
it is a very good program. even more hardware friendlier then vista.

I disagree with you, for me XP has and still is microsoft's best OS atm. I have Windows Vista Ultimate here as well but I dont use it quite simply as its not required and Windows XP does everything I want it to. Also locking things to DX10 isnt a good thing as the guys who made Just Cause 2 found when hackers removed the DX10 requirements and it looked exactly the same on DX9.0c.

I do however agree that a fully updated Windows XP (Service Pack 3) would be a requirement as Microsoft themselves wont support anything below that.

Yeah, you're right. XP WAS the best Windows' OS . Now the best windows' OS is Win7 (or 8). Vista was a really fail, it was full of Bugs If you have Service Pack 3 maybe you can play the game on XP, but, that's a tip: buy Windows 7

i never said XP is bad. it is a good program. no complaints there. got my self vista when i got a new machine and dint had actually problems with it, but it was still a HW eater. once 7 came out, i had no complaints what so ever.
regarding hackers, well, if you know what to do, no probs. but i personally dont want to take this risk and have problems later on.
plus, many checks have proven that it win 7 is good. if you have vista on a different machine, you can get an upgrade version of win 7. its cheaper and you will have the full win 7 program. and the good thing is, you will not lose anything on your machine.

but at this stage, you just have to wait for the specs to be announced.

Windows XP should work fine. All games lately only say for Vista and 7, but I haven't had any issues on XP (that wouldn't be present also on the other OS's). If there are issues for that only, then that would be odd. Usually, if there are bugs, it will be present no matter your OS (unless you're trying to play a game on Windows 98, or something )

(or, Windows ME!! )

The other title that made me ask was Hitman Sniper challenge as it dont even load on XP just comes up with the 'launching...' steam box then quits, this is another Vista/7 only flagged title. This is why I was asking about the support. According to the forums for sniper challenge its Vista/7 ONLY nothing XP at all.

If you can give me a cast iron guarantee that it will work on XP then I will get it otherwise I will wait.

i hate to tell you this, but you would make it easier for your self by getting 7. otherwise you will be constantly asking and looking at the specs if it works with your OS. and always trying to find ways around it doenst sound like fun either to me.
but thats just my opinion on that matter.

I do agree that its your opinion and your entitled to it, however as a programmer myself I have to support every level of customers machines and the ones i have here just happen to have windows XP. I have others that are windows 7 BUT they are not to the same specification that games these days will require.

Also seeing as Windows XP market share is still quite high alienating them isnt a good marketing idea, at last glance speed wise Windows Vista is 35% slower than XP and 7 is 15% slower than XP when performing most tasks. I have yet to put Windows 8 through its paces so I cannot tell you if that compares to it or not. Microsoft have said that October 2014 is the death day for XP and giving up on it this early doesnt seem like a sound decision. The only time I saw programmers do that was because they wanted to lock the game to specific operating systems for example HALO and Just Cause 2 both of which were hacked and released to run on Direct X 9.0c just as well as the Direct X 10 variants.

Not sure anyone can give you a cast iron guarantee of anything yet, as the actual specs have not been released and AFAIK the main program is still being worked on, so nothing is finalised yet.

The only way to be sure will be to wait until the game is done and then find out what the final specs are.

I hear-tell that Angel of Darkness is playable, correct? If so, then no ME is like Superman 64, after someone sat on it, lit it on fire, and then used it as a shot put

in your case its understandable. but i guess you understand what i was trying to say as well with my earlier message.

microsoft of course forces its new software that you cant get anything else anymore. all the shops sell win 7 only. no more XP or vista. but well. its like 98. that was the best OS and and then you were forced to give up on it because many softwares dint support it anymore.
and true; XP is still used in companies. i see shops having it on their computers, but many have win 7 as well.
dint know about the dying date of XP. almost sad but thats how it is with technology. you have to keep up. if you like it or not. i surely dint want 98 to go away or even XP

cant give any comments on win 8 since its not out yet and so far, i dint read anything good about it. the latest one was about indie developers having problems with it for doing their stuff. not sure about the details now.
im not saying i will get win 8 once its out, i will keep win 7 for as long as possible. as long games run it. i will not get the latest OS.

There's actually good reason to shift away from XP, as it only supports up to 4GB of RAM, IIRC. Which for modern gaming is a bit too close to minimum spec to be safe.

I loved XP myself. Used it for years. It's a great program. BUT - Win 7 is actually better, IMO. It's far more stable and has given me the least trouble of any Windows system I've used.

The only trouble I've had with it has been the DRM used by some older games that were either created for a fixed version of Windows, or Win 7 prevents from installing on grounds that they are known to create system instability (That's what the refusal message says!). I can't see that last one as a bad thing, somehow.

Yeah, XP is a good OS, I'm using it right now, but as for me, when I buy a new PC, Windows 7 will take the throne
