Well, I'll just say this, and then get back to the demo. The graphics really do not look good. While they look better than dx1, they aren't going to win any awards.

My opinion is that they should not have made this a GameSpy exclusive, if they were truly interested in getting this demo out to the widest audience. It should have been sent to multiple download sites, period.

That said, I'm looking forward to later today, when I imagine most other mirror sites will have it available.

What a totally wierd resolution to play games at. Why dont you use something a little more standard like 1024 * 768 or 1280 * 1024?

Why? Why are the graphics fuzzy? I don't know. And the controls are a little sensitive, and the hud is a small pain, but I'm getting used to it after 3 minutes of play. I'd say that says something for it's goodness.

I play everything at 1600x1200 but in this game it is horrid. And its nothing but deus ex 1 graphics with lighting and karma physics. Alot of people gonna be dissapointed with this demo.

bleh.

I have found cranking up the multisampling to x6 under video goes a LONG way in making the game run smoother for me. On 1x sampling the game is choppy as hell.

Revised opinion: Graphics aren't tops, but I chucked a barrel off of a balcony, it hit the roof of a shed, and rolled down it. It was so cool. Also, the flamethrower OWNS!!!! And now I have to eat lunch, deliver flyers, so I won't be able to play again until evening. NOOOOOOO!!!! Oh well, at least the game rocks. Try and break into the greasel owners house, it's cool in there.

YESSSSSS YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

demo rocked! I cant wait until dec 5. Thats going to mark the day I.. call in sick and take 3 days to explore the dark world of DX2. Physics rocked. Throwing around barrels and tires, and whacking people with poolsticks ROCKS. toss something down stairs or off a balcony, and it bounces, rolls, falls over, slides, and does other stuff that generally ROCKS. toss something on top of that burning barrel and it ROCKS the walls with real looking shadows. i've played the demo a few times through, doing all the things i could possibly think of, and there's so many options. Its great.. the first time i went through, i was just exploring, and i came across this apartment with a girl and a.. uh.. one of those mutated chicken things. well i ROCKED them both with my FLAMETHROWER (which rocks as well). Then wehn i get in the bar, and go down to the pit and talk to some people, some guy offers to pay me to take out the competition for his mutated chicken. the one his chicken is going to fight. well, i already did that, and alex tells the guy i already did, SO I GOT SOME MONEY! and then i watched this guy's chicken ROCK the other chicken, and, well.. it rocked. then i went to the lauch pad and it was over but that was the only bad thing. my score: 6/5 ROCKS \,,/

edit
oh yeah, played fine at 800x600 on my ti 4200. had to adjust the mouse sensitivity a little when i started, but after that it was gold. which rocks. but is not a rock.

OHHHH and I dont know what all you people where huffing in puffing about Ez Pad or whatever. I downloaded with my FREE gamespy account, to an exe i could easily distribute, and installed it. It NEVER ASKED FOR MY GAMESPY LOGIN. EVER. ROCK ON!

Glad to hear you think it "rocks" so much.

Since you sound like you played through the entire demo, how long would you say it is?
With exploring around and all.

YOU WIN! ....

BTW you don't get to wield the pool stick as a weapon do you? You just throw it at people? Can you throw the balls from the pool table too?

demo took me maybe 10 mins the first time, shooting everybody and whatever. But I spent about an hour or something playing it all the different ways i could think of. Hacking and being sneaky, being friendly and paying off people, sneaking and bribing, sneaking, hacking, AND BRIBING. that one was fun. then this other time i just went through and rocked their F'ING socks off. that was fun too, but not as fun as hacking bribing sneaking and BRIBING.

the poolstick isn't a weapon that you can add to your inventory, but i did get this thug damn pissed by throwing it at him a ton. and i threw a tire at him a couple times. he was super pissed. but after all that he still told me about how he flew a plane and crashed and whatever. we shared a moment even tho i pissed him off. which was cool that he was so forgiving. if anyone tried some poolstick tire throwin shat on me i'd ROCK EM with my pistol with the increased rate of fire mod. they'd be sorry they even looked at a poolstick...

btw this is now my second post. i enjoyed the demo so much i signed up and registered with my real email just to share this with you guys. because this game is special. and it rocks. damn hard. i mean the demo does, i'm sure the game will be beyond what can be measured in the rock scale.

I would love to tell everyone my experiences with the demo, but unfortunately after the 250 meg dl, I cannot play it, as my card does not support pixel shader. Disabling the game for those who don't have pixel shader was a bad idea back when 3d mark 03 did it, and it's a bad idea now. I'm sure the game itself is great, but for people who can't afford a 200 dollar video card, it's mildly frustrating. I'm sure you'll all tell me to get over it or buy a new card, but I think personally that cutting out so much of your audience before the game is even out is a very bad decision. I know my system for one has the ram to run anything (if I can run planetside on LOW with a decent framerate, I could run anything, and I can run it on MEDIUM with a decent framerate, so I know the game would be more than playable) I hope this changes by retail, because I'm not willing to pay 200 dollars to play one game. Even if it will probably be the best game ever made for a very long time.

YOU Warren spector for in over your PC FAN BASE!

This demo in sucks ass. Why do i act and sound like a immature 12 year old? BECAUSE im in disappointed!!!

Deux Ex, just like System shock 2, was really one of my favorite games.

This demo proves that the game has been indeed

CONSOLE`D

The interface is in unbareable. The fonts, even at 1600x1200 looks like its been made for 8 years olds so they can read.
While in levels, the proportion isnt right. The door seems to big and the rooms are too small. Gameplay...huh..? wheres the gameplay? Oh great i can sneak, shoot or hack....and the hacking is me pressing the left MB. OH THATS INOVATIVE...

you Ion Storm for in this up.

That is my opinion. Please after waiting 3 years for this i have to godamn right to vent my disappointment.

Kalean...because of the ever advancing tech of PC hardware and games, it's a must to upgrade every couple of years or so to keep up. Sorry you cant play the game on your system. What are you specs anyway?

And i am curious, could people who have tried the demo not only post what they think about it gameplay wise, but how it runs on your systems and please list your system's specs.

Thanks.

hey kalean, i feel your pain. I used to have a geforce1 for a long time, and it was pretty cool for the games that came out around the time i got it. but after a while all these games came out that it could barely play. and i was mad. but you know what? if game makers made games that looked good on old graphics cards, then they wouldn't take advantage of the new technology thats out. and they'd look like the games from the year before. which would NOT ROCK. check this out gforce4 4200 for 88 bucks now you dont have to spend 200 bucks. This is what i have, and it plays games pretty decent. I dont know if it has pixel shaders or whatever, but it plays DX2. And right now and up until december 15th, thats all that matters.

i got done playing it it runs good on my system the only problem is the mouse sensitivity is was to high it's on 50 percent and if you moved it a little bit it would move way too far. Other than that it was good i found a book that mentions jc and paul in one of the apartments.

amd athlon xp 2500+
1.84ghz
512mb of ram
geforce 4 ti4200

If you want to be pissed off, you should probably direct it at Harvey Smith, who was in charge of the project.

Yeah! Whatever happened to the good old days of DX 1 hacking, where you right-clicked on a console and THEN left-clicked the little 'hack' button!

Cheers!

I have it saved at this point so I can get more shots later. For now it's back to playing the game. Oh, it's running like a dream too - 1280 * 1024, full detail, 4 x Multisample on:

2800+
1gb Ram
