Thief I on WindowsXP

Yes I should've used the search button, but I didnt, sorry for my ignorance.
But the thing is, Thief 1 doesnt want to run on my PC. IT ran when I had Windows 98 but I installed Windows XP and now it doesnt. Well it starts the game, but whenever I click on the start game button the screen goes black and Windows plays the "asterisk" sound. That's it
