Okay, I've taken a bunch of screen shots to show frame rates.
I have no idea how to post them though. If someone can help me out, we can get them stuck up here. Anyone?

You need a webserver account of some kind.

Thanks Catman. I know this but I don't have one. I was wondering if someone else would oblige
Shame Koif isn't about, he normally volunteers for this kind of thing...

You "might" be able to get a Geocities (or Yahoo or whatever they are now) account and create a website there with all the jpegs on it and then just tell us the web address.
I know Geocities stopped allowing linking a long time ago - as pretty much every "free" web server service has done. But if we could just have a free spot to put our pics and then refer each other to them that would be great. I'm just thinking it would add some solid pictographic evidence to all these FPS numbers being thrown around ![]() I know last night I was messing around in the apartments level at the beginning of the game and with those settings you described in your other post I was staying above 30FPS until I looked down the long hallway, at which point I dropped down to 18 FPS at the lowest point. Still playable to me (as I grew up on a 28.8 modem trying to play GL Quake) but I definitely see where others would deem this "unplayable" as there is a bit of a slideshow that can be detected by the naked eye. Anyway, I'm going to start getting screen shots together and maybe even install it on my Athlon 1700+ system and grab some screen caps from that system as well. Should be some good info once we get all this sorted out and posted!

how big are they? I have webspace, you could email them to me, darkhound@terrorsedge.net - bare in mind though i have a 56k modem.
if you want I can set up a folder or something to put the pics on....i only get 10Gb a month bandwidth though, reckon that will cut it with all the people that visit here? |

To keep the bandwidth usage down, crop and resize them to only show the essentials. The framerate counter and enough of the screen so people can try and reproduce it. Then link (don't inline) to them.
Irfanview is a freeware image viewer than be used to crop/resize images. |

No, I definitely get at least 500Mb Space so its not a problem. If you want to email me them I'll upload them at some point within the next few hours. I can set up a basic gallery program on my webspace I think (hosting basically does it for you) then they'll be easier to view.

Sorry about the delay. Posted this bunch of images to you at that address.
Let us know how you get on. Might want to open a new thread for them that we can add to as we go?

what i will do is I will make catagories in the gallery - one for each different test system (saying the specs) and screenshots from that system within the catagory
the image quality wont be that good, but good enough to let people see how many fps you got and where you got it. I will try to recreate them as closely as possible on my machine, probably at some point tonight and upload them...if others want to do the same do it and email me them and mention your specs, but if you could use irfanview to make them smaller (set it to about 50 quality) before you send them it would be a help. I've posted up the 31 screenshots DreamEndless sent me. The gallery is here: http://www.terrorsedge.net/deusex2/
Feel free to send me any screenshots from your rigs anyone else, ones that are in the same places as DreamEndless would be good. Cheers |

These shots are in 1024x768, all details max, bloom on, 4XAA. I've set AF to application and turned uf VSYNC (was giving me a headeache in the Inclinator ){edit} do also keep in mind that they will lose some image quality through being JPEG'd

Lookin good dream - I've noticed also that as you progress further into the game the frame rates seem to get a little better. Anyone else noticed that? I have not left Seattle yet but I have noticed things staying above 30FPS for the most part now that I have gotten out of the first few levels of the game.
I need to start working on my personal webspace tonight and get my screenshots posted too. Looking through yours gave me the realization that I should arrange things chronologically with spoiler warnings just in case someone looks at my site and hasn't made it very far into the game. Either that or find ways to get a good variety of screen caps without giving away storyline. Very cool of darkhound to offer his space up for usage too! If this works really well and we get a lot of interest and a large following I could see this developing into a sort of "web-ring" of sites that track and compare graphics and FPS performance for PC games. That would be nice too - maybe the developers would start taking performance issues a little more seriously and do more testing pre-release to make sure things are up to current standards? What a wonderful world that would be

No problem at all, its interesting to see the performance other people get.
It would be a great thing to set up a site that compared performance of games accross different rigs, we should seriously think about doing that. |

I anticipate that tonight I will get at least an hour to work on my site. I found out that I only get 10MB of space from my cable ISP but that should still be plenty of space using even high quality jpeg's.
I have some pretty funny screenshots to go along with the imperical FPS screenshots as well - I'm hoping this will be fun as well as an eye-opener for performance issues in this game. I'll probably attempt to put some screen caps from Splinter Cell and Halo in there as well. Maybe even some Quake 3 and Jedi Academy (though the character detail in those games is NOT on par or even close to DX2) just for kicks

Well, I have my site under construction. Unfortunately I'm having problems getting the pics to load right. I think using a mixture of caps and small letters for my directory names is screwing things up. Once I get that sorted I will *hopefully* be able to finally post the links.
Right now all I have is a nice index page with links to several games (of which only DX2 is a working link atm) and then a DX2 page with links to "Not Found" pages due to my issues with HTML and Frontpage ![]() This is why I'm not a webmaster

Again that's :
http://home.insightbb.com/~rfulford11/ So far I have DX2 screenshots in 1024 and Halo in 1600 - I'm thinking about putting some 1024 screenshots up for comparison. This is hard work ![]() *edit* testing to see if my sig works *edit*

So did you all have a chance to check out my site yet? It's linked in my sig now. Let me know your likes/dislikes/suggestions for improvement.
Can you believe those UT2004 frame rates? Pretty amazing. It's not as highly detailed as DX2, and of course it's a TOTALLY different gaming experience... but still, the UT engine OWNS

The colors are a bit off-putting. I find it's usually better to go with a light (but not white) background and dark text color.
But if you're set on the dark background, choose text colors which give a higher contrast. Blue on black is difficult to read. I'd also do something different with the images. Having to open a link for each is a bit tedious. For example, <img src="DX2images/screenrezaa.jpg" alt="Image Description : Screen rez and AA settings starting game : End" /> would put the image right on the page. |

Catman, is there any chance of you drumming up some screenies from your rig playing IW?
The reason I ask is that you have a fairly low end rig (GF3) and say you have it running well. It would be good to have a comparison at the other end of the scale! Cheers!

Bit off topic but anyone played Painkiller? Thats a sweet engine imo. Graphics are awesome and the physics are aswell, looks as good if not better than DX:IW (whether IW uses PS to the limit or any of that other BS, talking about actual quality of graphics to the eye) and the framerates are great even with loads going on....stake gun is so cool
