Game saves disappearing

Help!

I just noticed that my game saves are not actually being saved.

Tons of room on my computer - no problem there.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but that was no help.

I'm playing on XP. I've had this problem before, but on a different computer. The gameis runnng perfectly.

I'm playing the GOTy edition.

I now have only two saves to work with. All of my other recent (as in past two days) saves just -- vanished. And when I try to make a new save, I get the "saving" screen, and I get a new save position, but it's just saving over the last save. So I have only a current save, and a quicksave, and that's it. I am so close to the end of the game that I don't want to start all over.

Is there a fix for this? Or am I out of luck?
