Default Kill the Black Screen Bug

well I aquired a copy of the North American version frm a friend and all seemed well at 1st...

game ran fine without any problems for a couple of days...

I then upgraded my ATI Radeon 9700 Pr graphics driver...

after which when i attempted to start a new game it got as far as selecting the player type, diffculty etc and then would just freeze forcing me to have to re boot my pc...

I tried everything from uninstalling and deleting registry entries to re-installing, with and without patch etc...

nothing worked...

I have no idea why this happend all of a sudden, possible something I installed? mabe upgrading the graphics fdriver perhaps?

either way I have got a temporary fix for this stupid annoyance whilst some sort of official fix can be released...

for me it seems that some sort of start up process is the conflict...

I set my system into dual monitor mode... placing the task bar on the second monitor...

this way if the game froze up during my tests I could atleast still access the start menu etc and force close the game from the task manager using the second screen...

using a single monitor will be helpless as all u will see is a big black area altho you may not be actualy "in game" which caqn be noticed as the cursor switches fom blue Deus Ex to standard windows white...

compatability mode on xp does nothing much.. and its deffinately not neccessary as I did state the game worked fine before...

anyhow...

the way I got round it was to dissable ALL start up processes through "msconfig"

I know this is a "*****" but I thought it worth it to play the game without any problems...

there's too many processes for me to test individualy and at the current moment in time i haven't got the time orpatience to keep having to og off and then back on (yes thats right you dnt hae to re-boot the entire comp just for changes to take effect)

I did re-enable some processes like Norton Antivirus etc and game is ok... not surew what is the conflicting "" but its there somewhere...

also if anyone is wondering yes my system works fine with most start up processes dissabled...

system spec if anyone wants to know:

DELL 8250

P4 3.06 GHz
512 RD RAM
120 GB HDD
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

When you uninstalled/reinstalled, did you also delete the files in My Documents?
