Why wont my settings save?

Every time i load iw up...its at stock settings....so i have to put them all upto max settings again...the game runs fine with the settings at max and nothing is ever wrong...but for some reason they are always reset...wtf...i have the patch and the cata 3.10s for my Radeon 9700PRO...what gives

PS: My friend also has this problem on his comp w/ a Radeon 9600PRO...3.10's also...
