Oh mah gawd, this could actually make me play the game again.

That is, after I finally play the first KOTOR for real.

Just saw this Q&A with Chris Taylor the lead designer on Fallout 1 and this made me laugh:

Quote:
You've probably been asked this before, but what are your thoughts on Fallout 3?

I once said I'd only comment on Fallout 3 if I had nice things to say about it.

I really liked Fallout New Vegas.

And this is why I don't buy games from Ubisoft: Ubisoft DRM acts as a rootkit

I'm not surprised and wouldn't wonder if there's something about that hidden in their ToS / EULAs. Personally I still haven't bought any Ubi PC title since Far Cry 2.

In other words they don't see a long term future in the fallout licence so they need another one.

You know I have been thinking, just because Bethesda have bought the rights to Stalker it doesn't necessarily mean that they themselves are going to develop it. After all once Arkane studios are done with Dishonoured I doubt they are going to go straight onto a sequel. Beth could palm it off either them or any other company such as id while they get Elder scrolls 5 on the drawing board. Hell they may even be smart enough to bring in someone like Obsidian to do it.

Either way they will need a PC centric focus since if they screw it up the eastern bloc fanbase will lynch them while the western won't buy it. And i doubt 95% of the console plebs even know what Stalker is.

PS.Brian Fargo posted a new Wasteland 2 artwork here. http://twitter.com/BrianFargo/status.../photo/1/large

Didn't Obsidian make New Vegas? That was one of the buggiest games I've ever played.

Also, after many, many hours of messing around and practice I don't completely suck at Dota anymore. I just kind of suck.

I would be genuinely interested to see what Smith, Colantonio & Co. would bring to the STALKER franchise.

Short dev time + QA by Bethesda. Certainly no buggier than F3.

But still one of the best games ever made and one of the greatest RPG's ever conceived.

no offence to Obsidian, but i'm not sure they are the right fit. Their forte is story and choice + consequence.

Whilst S.T.A.L.K.E.R. requires more focus on the survival/horror elements.

In fact, out of the current Bethesda dev roster (Human Head, Arkane, Id, and Bethesda itself), I don't really see anyone who can pull off S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Maybe the Brink guys, if Arkane lends them Victor Antonov to do ALL of the setting and artwork for the game to make sure it has that Easter Europe feel

of course, if BEth was to bring in together all of its devs, we might get something out of it.

Cyberpunk Q&A:
http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index...-some-answers/

Quote:
Richie79: What elements are you using as inspiration (references) for making Cyberpunk?

Marcin Momot: There are quite a few actually. Aside from the obvious ones like the works of William Gibson or the Blade Runner movie, we also take from the first Ghost in the shell, both anime and manga. We’re also looking up to ShellShock because of its interesting approach to gameplay. The first part of Deus Ex is also a very important source of inspiration to us.
I'm currently trying to get an answer whether they meant System Shock rather than ShellShock

EDIT: They did.

TPS, actually. And yeah, I'm faily certain he did mean System Shock, but even as a mistake it's fairly disconcerting.

I'm also a bit disappointed they played it so safe regarding the inspirations - let's face it, GitS is just as obvious a go-to for cyberpunk as Blade Runner and Gibson. As is DX. Personally, I do hope they get some inspiration and maybe, just maybe even actual involvement from Jacek Dukaj.

EDIT: two more questions and answers from the polish forum, translation by me

Quote:
Kielek486: What will the editions be (i.e. Collector's Edition or Normal)

Marcin Momot: I think considering our penchant for having special editions for our games up to date, and also the fact that we always strive to give the players everything we can in thanks for their support, you can expect unique gadgets and bonus materials, which entails releasing more than one edition of the game. Let's remember though, that this is still a song of the future - I'll let you know when we'll get around to working on that.

Vojtasass & Kereth: To what degree will Cyberpunk reference the p&p game's mechanics? How extensively is Mike Pondsmith involved in designing the game?

MM: Really a lot of people in our studio are fans of the p&p Cyberpunk. These are people who grew up playing this game, and now have the chance to shape its computer game adaptation. While working on both Witcher games, we learend how to create mature stories for discerning audiences. Our method of narration, attention to detail in presenting locations, sometimes very brutal realities - all this we want to carry over to the Cyberpunk world. As far as mechanics and solutions that we'd want to implement go, we have a whole slew of gameplay ideas that we couldn't use in The Witcher, because they wouldn't fit that world - Cyberpunk gives us more leeway in this regard. Mike Pondsmith is the father of the whole system, he created it along with his friends, together they established the rules, so naturally we're working very close with him, to best match his vision and mechanics in our game. During his last visit, Mike spent a huge amount of time with the team, talking about particular solutions and establishing details of gameplay mechanics. From what I've been able to hear from him personally, it's clear that he's very satisfied with our vision and ideas.
EDIT2: ShellShock confirmed as mistake. He meant System Shock. So Yeah. :P

It is a very safe answer re: inspiration.

If they were to say something like, say, Snow Crash, i'd be much more impressed.
