Question Flutes?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here knew about different types of flutes?
I love soundtracks from video games, especially Tomb Raider's and Uncharted's... I bought all 3 Uncharted's soundtracks... And my iPod contains lots and lots of movies and games soundtracks...

I started to play duduk recently because I could often hear it in the Myst games, and I absolutely fell in love with this instrument!

One of Uncharted 2's amazing duduk part:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plYObqSlm_g (You can hear the duduk very well from 0:00 to 0:45.)

Isn't it a wonderful sound?

I also heard a flute in Uncharted 1, but I was unable to find this flute's name:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vY0CfprfMs (It plays from 0:52 to 1:52.)

It is so beautifully overwhelming! We can even hear the person breathing!

So, do some of you know this flute's name? I looked on google, but did not find it... If any of you know about flutes, maybe you can help me with that?

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely. Uncharted's music is so... well fitting to the games! It creates such an atmosphere! I just have to think about Uncharted 1's bunker level and its music, and I have goosebumps.

Just a FYI, those soundtrack are almost always 100% samples, samples of real instruments but still electronically produced.
Do they credit performer orchestras? If not it's just a clever musician/producers using electronics to get the sound.

I don't know about that: I remember that in the digital booklet, there was a guy credited for the flutes/winds, but there was just the person's name, not precise instrument names...

@The Zoo Boy: Yes! I like the fact that the main theme is the same every time, but redone.

That is awesome!!! You should make a YouTube video of you playing it.

BTW: Did you see at the end of the video, all three of the different versions of Nate's Theme played at once? That was just...beauttiful.

Yes, I listened to the three themes together at the end: it is fantastic. I wonder if, in a possible Uncharted 4, they'll keep the same theme? I think it would be a mistake to change it.

YouTube video of my piano version: I don't think I'll make one, because there are so much videos of this theme already on YouTube, and I don't think I would bring anything new to it.

Well I would think, and hope, that they would keep the same theme. And I think you should, I'd like to see how you play.

I don't even have any YouTube channel.

But I did post some videos on my father's channel, if you are interested, those are stop-motion movies about Tomb Raider:

I took flute in 6th-7th grade. I was never really interested in it or excelled to great hieghts but I could play but don't remember much but F. Hehe! All I remember is it always made you feel good or sick and blowing all the time makes you feel like you are on drugs because your brain goes coocoo. Electric bass is a better instrument.

I tried didgeridoo once. It was incredible. I felt so sick and tired from blowing too much! The Duduk is a much smaller flute, so I'm ok to play it. I think flutes are really interesting instruments however, so mysterious. I think I'll always be better on piano, but nonetheless I'm still fascinated with that flute I'm trying to find the name...

If anyone knows... I'm still looking for its name: the one from 0:52 to 1:52...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vY0CfprfMs

I'd be really pleased to know about it.

I dunno but the common flute everybody used said "Geinhart" or something on it. It came in a case and you connect three pieces together. All I remember is they always say to to keep your right arm in the air and it always gets really tired during an entire hour! I guess I was routed to play flute by my mother because she was a guitar teacher and didn't wanna always be teaching me because she didn't like to teach because they'd always say, "I wanna play Heavy Metal etc, Bon Jovi." Haha! Then she'd always say, "You have to know basics first."

I dunno. It's like the one from that Guns N' Roses song 'November Rain'.

Maybe you're thinking of a piccalo flute. I'm sure wikipedia has a list of flutes.

The flute in the song sounds much lower than a piccolo.

I could not find any list on the Net...

Maybe I should find a flute master somewhere and ask?
