It's not a valid comment at all. Felicia Day is no less (or more) relevant to the games industry than someone like, say, Spoony, or Yahtzee, or any game critic ever - and yet I don't see anyone accusing them of being "nothing more than a glorified [male] booth babe."

Actually, scrap that, she is more relevant to the games industry than those guys by the simple virtue of actually being in a game (possibly more than one? I'm not sure.) She may not make games, but again, I don't see anyone making such stupid comments about Nolan North, for example.

Sure, firing the guy is a bit far, but it was still a ridiculously dumb comment to make. Shame it was Ryan Perez that made it, not Jim Sterling.

I say anyone who gets drunk and attacks a woman on any level deserves whatever happens to them.

Felicia Day is popular because she knows and loves video games, and writes, produces and directs a show about knowing and loving video games. Also, she's deliciously beautiful.

She's not relevant to the industry, she's relevant to the culture.

Did the alcoholic from GamingBolt.com get drunk during an interview again?

Felicia Day hardly has any comment about the gaming industry in general. She literally is a glorified booth babe who got lucky at a casting call, and lucky that legions of sweaty nerds will worship a girl who really isn't that attractive just because they know she plays video games for thirty minutes a day.

She doesn't go around to developers and play games and talk about them on the Internet and act as a channel between publisher/developer and the public. She doesn't make games or even have anything to say about games at all. She doesn't run a website or a YouTube channel for talking about video games, or do anything relevant to the industry OTHER than getting cast in games because she's popular.

She's just a big red figurehead with no reason to like her other than "lol she's so quriky and pretty."

I don't like Zooey Deschanel either.

I'll just say this again...

She doesn't represent developers, she represents gamers. And she didn't get to this status because she was "lucky on a casting call." She writes, directs, produces and stars in The Guild, a show about being a Gamer. And based off the success of those efforts, she earned the status she has today.

So far the only ones who seem to have trouble with her are those who ignorantly misinterpret what she represents. It's wrong and evil to say she should bridge any gap between those who make games and those who play them. She has no greater ties to the industry than any of us. She's a gamer, who has earned celebrity for representing this in a very creative, talent-driven way. It is reckless stupidity to equate her with a booth babe. Felicia Day is not hired to sell the efforts of a developer with her breasts. She sells her own efforts with her writing, cleverness and charm.

But because she's a woman, to some her creative works have no merit.

She didn't "get lucky at a casting call." Her big break - if she could be said to have had one, she's hardly megafamous - came from The Guild, which she created, wrote, starred in, produced and (I think) directed. The Guild is a series about a group of people who play an MMO together - pretty relevant to gaming. Other than that, her "fame" (such as it is) comes from running the Youtube channel Geek and Sundry, which covers (amongst other things) games.

You criticise people for "worshipping" her because she's a vaguely attractive woman, but you evidently know nothing about her, and so are assuming that she's done nothing of note for exactly that reason - "She's a woman, and therefore obviously knows nothing about games. People are clearly only interested in her at all because they fancy her." That attitude is every bit as bad as the one you're complaining about.

[EDIT] Just found out that Ryan Perez went from 50 followers on Twitter to nearly 2,000 overnight because of this. Maybe I should say something ignorant and misguided about someone famous...

But she doesn't. Unless "representing gamers" suddenly means "acknowledging the fact that you play games." To me representing gamers is a lot more than just being a public figure who plays games. I never said she should represent the developers, but having actual in-depth commentary or opinions about video games would be a big step to making her seem like less of a barebones gamer-stereotype that the media latched onto because she's got a cute face.

That's my bad, and good for her because it's pretty funny, but The Guild is hardly anything beyond the level of your average World of Warcraft player, and literally the most notable thing about it is the fact that it's about MMO players. So again, it's just repackaging and selling "gamer culture" to the people who created it in the first place. It's a step above The Big Bang Theory, but it still boils down to being not really any more funny than conversations that happen in my living room, and I would imagine that you guys share that feeling.

That's literally just not true. Maybe it was true like five years ago before she ever even worked on The Guild, but at this point she's shaken hands with people that most of us won't ever even see with our own eyes. If she's not doing us any service, why are we paying her? She's another of the hundreds of people who have gotten and gained popularity just because they started being popular in the first place. She gets put in games because people like hearing her voice because they like that sense of familiarity. It's literally just paying her to be famous.

No, but that doesn't mean she isn't hired to sell the efforts of a developer. The only reason she's famous is because the media latched onto her immediately upon recognizing a moderately cute, down-to-earth girl that was already working her way into popularity in the gaming community. How many people produce things that are just as great and aimed at the same group of people as The Guild, but even if their show/movie/whatever does well, they are personally never brought up or made any kind of big deal about, because they aren't a cute girl.

It's not that they have no merit, it's the fact that all of her works and her as a personality are blown completely out of proportion due to the fact that she's a woman. If she were a man, we would not even be talking about her, and likely wouldn't even know her name.

Don't be silly. I didn't mean she actually, physically or philosophically represents gamers. I'm saying that's the position people are sort of giving her, whether you agree with it or not. The important part of that statement was that she does not represent the industry. She's not even attempting to be a figurehead for developers, that's absurd. She's just a gamer and a geek, and its in that culture she holds relevance... because she is one of us. She just has a bigger voice than most.

Some of the recent stoplight being shown on her may well have much to do with her sex, but her original fame with The Guild was all earned. That show is damn funny. And her work on Geek and Sundry is excellent as well.

I've been playing a bit of Skyrim lately, and despite the plot being a little weak and clichéd, it's seriously good fun.

In even the most abandoned waterlogged caves and castles, there are lit candles and roaring torches merrily shining away. This bothers me. Is there some really knackered bloke wondering around tending to them all, or am I to explain it away as magic fire?

There's a fire god who tends to all the hearths, torches and candles in Skyrim. He loves a good flicker.

Anyone on here going to Rezzed today or tomorrow? I'll be heading along tomorrow, looking forward to the board games at least as much as the videogames though. :P

(On a related note: everyone should buy Super Dungeon Explore, as it's seriously brilliant.)

Whenever I'm gloomy I like to imagine a hamster getting eaten by a dragon whose getting buggered by a unicorn's rigid horn. And somewhere in the scene there's Barbra Streisand exposing he left breast.

I wish it would stop being so unreasonably hot. If this keeps up we're going to have dinosaurs again.

This is the reason that the globalists had to switch their meme from "Global Warming" to "Global Climate Disruption".

We had so much rain in June. It's only been really sunny the last few weeks. I can't remember a cooler summer.

I've only played one round of golf. This is unacceptable. Hopefully the weather will be good for the Olympics.

I only have one ticket but it's for the Men's Basketball final - super excited. Though if I don't get a job soon I might have to sell it.

I think most folks are just calling it climate change at this point. And for sure, the climate is changing. I like it because it's vague enough that it doesn't immediately make it sound like it's our fault.

I've heard the argument that "climate change" is more accurate than "global warming" because while the Earth is getting hotter in some locations it gets colder in others: "the extremes become more extreme." I think sometimes it's more appropriate but if it were entirely true then we'd be seeing more ice build up at the poles.

Maybe "climate change" is more appropriate, just not the extremes becoming more extreme.
