Default Tomb Raider on Xperia Play (Android)

Hello everyone! I haven't posted here in quite a while so I hope I have chosen the right section!

I am hoping to speak to some users who also have an Xperia Play phone or any android capable of emulating PS1 games. My problem is that I can only run Tomb Raider 3 and Chronicles with "FPse".

I have tried running Tomb Raider 1 and 2 but they crash when I try to start the game from the main menu (passport). It is quite annoying that I can get as far as the menu but then the game won't actually start. Has anyone achieved playing TR1&2 on an Android because i'm starting to think it's impossible, i've been playing around with this for weeks!

Unfortunately, playing Resident Evil 1 to 3 on my phone will not suffice so I would really appreciate anyone's help with this. Thanks!

Just in case anyone is wondering, the ROMs I use are mine that I have made from my games that I purchased over ten years ago, so as far as i'm aware, what I'm doing is perfectly fine

Well.. thanks for the massive response
Doesn't matter, I have finally managed to solve my own problem. I'll try to explain in case anyone visits this thread wanting some help.

After extensive playing around, I have realised that Tomb Raider 1&2 are a bit awkward when it comes to Audio. They will not run as normal .bin files like every other PSX game. Instead you must use .cue files. These .cue files can be created and opened with notepad. Rename the .cue file to the same name as your .bin file and use FPSE to run the .cue

To get the .cue file I had to use CloneDVD's free trial, but to make things easier for anyone in the same situation as what I was in, I will include the information needed to create your own .cue file.

1) Copy and paste all the text (from my posts below) into a notepad document.
2) Click "file" then "save as".
3) Type "SOMETHING.cue" where SOMETHING is actually what your .bin file is called
4) Move the .bin and your new .cue file to your phone's memory card
5) Open FPSE and launch the .cue

I really hope this helps someone!

One final thing to note is that you may have to change the first lines of these .cues

For TR1 you may need to change the bit "IMAGE.IMG" to whatever you have called your .bin file

For TR2 you may need to change the bit "tomb_raider2_pal.bin" to whatever you have called your .bin file

You shouldn't have to though! Anyway that's it for me, hope this helps someone somewhere. Also, sorry Mods, just realised you won't be too pleased about my repeated posts, but im trying to help!

I just thought I'd say you are the biggest legend. The Tomb Raider series is the main reason I bought the xperia play but I was having the same problem and after reading countless threads I was giving up hope! Your solution worked first go, so thanks for posting it even though no one responded to you. Cheers!

This information is fantastic, I'm truly greatful. One problem I do have if anyone could help me, when the game now loads, I don't have any music playing and there is no sound during cutscenes although there are SFX in game (lara grunting, shooting)

Any help would be fantastic guys, thanks.

Mate, I just registered to thank you for this info.

I was gutted when 99% of the internet told me TR wasn't going to work on my new Play.

Thanks for being the 1% that knows what they're talking about.

I succeeded with img/cue files, followed your instructions, but .bin was not working either with tr1 or tr2 - tr3, 4 and 5 worked as .img files perfectly, but 1 and 2 didn't, so I just edited .cue files and removed .bin, added .img in the first lines. Tomb Raider 1 works properly with sound, but 2 still doesn't have music. Any idea?

Thanks so much for this thread! It made my TR2 work for FPse.

Just wanted to ask how you obtained the perfect .cue info? Because my TR3, TR4 and TR5 games freeze when I pause or select. I can pause and select fine at the start of a new game, but I walk just a bit and then if I try the game freezes.

I believe a perfect cue file might help this as this as I had the same issue with TR2 and the perfect .cue file contents from here here fixed it.

EDIT: Oh, and I don't get cutscene audio for TR2. I'm running PAL roms.

Dark Lugia: if you use emulators, make sure to savestate when you are in the game's weapon select menu. I had to start the games from beginning when FPSe got updated, then figured it out how to save and stuff. So always save from menu, and it won't crash your game.

Matt: Try using .img files instead of .bins...
