Is there any way to roll back a patch?

I know this might be more of a technical support thread type of issue, but it's fairly dead over there.

Does anyone know of any way to roll back to a previous version before the patch? This one has messed up my (and many other's, if those that spoke up in the tech forums is any indication) games, which have been perfectly fine for months. I was nearing the last parts of the game, to.

So, just a general question that requires no DXdiag or what not. Anybody know if this is possible for a Steam game?

Forced patching is a Steam "feature", Valve are the ones who have total control over it. You can complain to publishers for choosing Steam in the first place.
