I was searching for unique idea for V.day card contest and spotted a fire symbol used in gameplay/demo(picture from official TR9 media thread):
I was very pleased how the card came out! ![]() (click image to enlarge) After one week or so, my GF was using FaceBuuk and I saw that on her page is a post with the same small fire symbol picture in front... first I was WTF! why did she posted it on Facecook... but after a second I noticed that it was a post from Official Latvias Facelook Page I couldn't understand why did they use the same symbol as CD... ...at first I thought(since in Latvia many people are not keen on working) that someone working for Latvias FaceDook Page just stole it!I searched net a bit and found it on iStock... it was uploaded on 03-08-08... That left pretty bad taste in my mouth! Someone might say... 'hey thats just demo'! But sorry, this is TR franchise!!! People here is arguing on - do TR copy Uncharted and opposite, while some things is simply copy/paste from iStock!!! I would like to hear from DEVS - How come, that simple fire vector that can be created in few minutes is bought at iStock!!!?? P.S. Didn't post this thread sooner, since didn't want to attract attention to card while voting has not ended. BTW: Here in this forum are so many talented members... If CD needed fire symbol, they could just make competition on here and they would get lot of very good ones and UNIQUE!

Whoah - nice detective work there, jakobsen! haha
And funny coincidence too, about your GF's FB ![]() (This is actually funny, because when I saw you posted your entry, I DID wonder howcome it looked so "perfect". I asked myself, "did jakobsen re-create that icon? or did he find it somewhere on the web? )But.....I think it actually isn't exactly copy&pasted from iStock like you said. If you look closely at the curling ends of both flame icons, you'll notice that they are slightly different. If CD did indeed use that iStock graphic as inspiration, they probably still just re-created it themselves. But for argument's sake, if they did indeed just purchase that graphic online from another company, is that really such a bad thing? I mean, if FB bought it and used it on their official website, then why shouldn't CD use it as well? FB is MUCH much bigger than TR. So why would it be okay for them but not for CD?

I asked my friend graphic designer, and he assured its the same, one to one.
It's just funny: what if NaughtyDog would do the same for Uncharted... and some other companies for other games? It's not FaceBooc who used it, it's used in Latvias country FB profile, its normal profile with 25000 followers. |

Well, with respect to your friend graphic designer; I, too, am a graphic designer and I see that they are not a 1:1 copy

Regardless of where it is from, I like that symbol better than the prompts they have in the E3 demo. This symbol is clean and clear as well as strictly 2D. The new symbol looks like it's poking fun at the game's grittiness with the black splatter background.
