Default TRLE Mac in German

Just installed TRLE on my Mac after a long time of -trying- to figure this thing out and the installer/whatnot is in German! Just wondering if i'm able to delete the file "GERMAN.DAT" to get it back to English again? There's another file with the .DAT extension called Script, is this the English i'm looking for? Thanks

There should be a file called ENGLISH.DAT with the English text. I can't imagine how you only got the German file.
You can check in the Script folder and you should have ENGLISH.TXT. All you have to do is run Script.bat to create the .DAT file for you. Although that might not work on a Mac.
Where did you download the TRLE?

Unless you are trying to install a custom level. Some do not come with English text.

Got that. English.DAT & .TXT comes up as a text, while German.DAT is a 'TR Level Player Carbon Document' (whatever that is).

... I have no such thing with a .bat extension. I do have a Script.DAT which is also a carbon document. Running it gives me an error message with the file name at the bottom. In the script folder, i also have something called 'ScriptEdit' & 'Script Bitte lesen' (read ScriptRead).

A MAC doesn't run .bat files I think, unless you're running an emulator.

But if the TRLE version you downloaded is all in German by default, then it's not a good place to start from anyway.

I would try downloading the PC version and then moving only the MAC files you need from the mac version to the PC version.

The download on my site is for sure a proper original copy of the TRLE setup: http://driber.net/homepage/tr/tools.html

I don't know much of the MAC TRLE myself, but know someone who works with it, I'll the person to take a look at this thread...

Ok I just had a look at that zipfile you posted. Try this:

Go to the Script folder and drag ENGLISH.TXT onto ScriptEdit

Then move the ENGLISH.DAT file to the root folder.

Alrighty!

I can't run ScriptEdit because it's a classic program. I believe i need Bootcamp for this (which i can't seem to get)

However. After doing some testing, right clicking Scrip.dat and using the Option 'Open with' opens up the level player in English (hooray/derp). So i can play level but can't make them (Level edit requires Bootcamp). I'll stick to playing levels on my Mac and look into borrowing a PC laptop to edit.

Thanks so much for the help! Looks like i'll have no problems playing levels (as of now, haha)

Hope this kind of helps others

Problem with a MAC is that you can play the games that are only without the NEW EXE (extended exe), so that means only the "older games".
You cannot built levels unless you still have OS 9, as OS X and higher will not let you to convert the TOM files into an EXE.
You can however use the English DAT en Script DAT without a problem even the ones that are made for the PC.
You cannot alter them because you need the same OS 9 for that.

My old Mac is almost at its end of its lifetime, so no more original games for me to play (cries)

While i'm at it, any good 'old' levels you'd recommend for me? Keen as a bean to raid on a different console (for once, haha)

I'd recommend Lost Chambers, it's MAC compatible.

(Just a bit of self-advertising there )

Yup, received the PM. Just been really busy the past few days, but I haven't forgotten. I'll get around to answer it sooner or later

Again, I am no mac expert, but the wav files go into the audio folder, tr4 files go into data and all other files into the root folder of your MAC trle folder.

Then hit the level player or whatever it is called.

It has been a while that I played TR levels on my MAC, but there are some that do have MP3 files instead of WAV files, for the AUDIO folder.
The easiest way to convert then I found is NOT to rename them (it does work but not always) I used a small program called MACAST MP3 converter.
Easy to find and free and .... will not corrupt the music.
