Default Mechanical Augs or Nano Augs?

Which one do people prefer?
I personally prefer the idea of mechanical augs as I believe there should be some trade off to get augmented and the trade off is that visually you can tell they are augmented. It isn't a bad thing as the augmentations in Deus Ex 3 look stunning. But that is the trade off.

(how do you do a poll?)

Depends, mechanical augmentation to the extent where it replaces ALL of your body would give you loads more potential. On the other hand.. nano augmentation to the degree JC had makes you god in a sense.

I'm unsure about what my choice would be..

I love the power of nano augs, who's potential goes far beyond mechanical imho. Combo of both even better.

Assuming DX HR is a huge success, I'd love to see a Deus Ex 4 set once again in the future post nano augmentations.

In real life? nano augmentation is the way I'd go. I wouldn't cut off a limb if I didn't have to so mechanical would be a no. That is, of course, unless it was like Ghost in the shell were you still appear normal on the outside. If they had that then I would do it after having kids.

I wouldn't mind mechanical agumentations like the ones Adam or Barret have, as long as they looked as stylish and intimidating as the ones they have:P
Ofcourse I would have to be sure, that my agumentations can be constantly upgraded to be up-to-date and be able to compete with nano-agumented folks

What a lot of people don't realize, Deus Ex fans will play this even if the gameplay is worse than tetris.
It's professional development of the DX storyline and that's what we want to eat up. So yeah, mech-augs, bring it on, let's find out why Manderley isn't mech-augged. Who else forms Unatco. At what point does Jordan Shea leave Unatco. If you search hard enough, there's plenty of clues in DX1 about mech-augs and the likely story.

Won't nanites eventually result in your muscles and bones being strong than steel?

Also, wouldn't nanites have the ability to rebuild parts of your body completely?

Therefore, get mechanical augs when they come out, then when nanoaugs appear just replace them.

I keep having to tell people that if they want to have any chance of living forever/prolonged lifespans, they're going to have to suck it up and accept a really ty robot body or something at the beginning, otherwise they aren't going to live long enough to see the real upgrades come out.

Mechanical augs are more realistic (and have a change of becomming a realistic option within my lifetime), but Nano augs seem to have more potential and less maintenance issues.
I have no real preference though, as a game mechanic it does not really matter (altough mechanical augs are more realistic to a degree), and i can´t really figure out how nano augs would actually work, or if they could ever possibly work like they did in DX and DX:IW, so i guess Mechanical augs would be the wy to go.

Um... worse than Tetris? I.e. Tetris, the pinnacle of human accomplishment?

The pinicle of human acomplishment cannot exist without candybars or hookers. Common knowledge guys...

On topic: Which would I prefer to have? Nano. Mechanical would present a lot of potential problems with replacement, upgrades, wear and tear, etc. In theory, nano augs would simply require a shot every year to stay up-to-date.

However, I much enjoy the concept of mech augs. They require much more thought and creativity from a design stand-point. You must design how/ where parts will work, move -- what they will be made out of, etc. Nano augs are almost a cheat-button for a design/ art team. Mechanical augs require much more thought behind them to make them realistic and believable. Furthermore, Mech augs are much more visually arresting. Seeing a human-like limb contort and transform into a cyclone of metal and weaponry is very intersting to the eyes, and helps to sell the point that those who "upgrade" are not only something more than human -- but also something less than human. Again - nano augs are an easy way out.

For myself or for game characters? For myself I'd obviously go with nano augs, less maintenance and none of that weird clammy cyborg skin pulled over actuators and wires. But from an aesthetic point of view I think game characters look cooler with mech augs, especially the elegant ones we see in DX3 and other places like in Ghost in the Shell, don't know why.

I consider Walton Simmons nano augs ugly - wires all over his face, if high-end nano agumentations would make you look always like him, then I would surely go for mech augs - besides you can always customize what augs you get -good loking ones or - if you just don't care for the looks and wish only for firepower - you do Gunther Herman thing...plaz' you wil' surly' benefit from zie' skull-gan.

It's funny how Sarif and Jensen have some nice looking augs, but Gunther and Anna look "a little" clunkier 25 years in the future. Granted that the first DX was released some 10 years ago.

I'd have to say nano.

You have to take a simple thing into the account - Anna Navare and Gunther Herman had so many augmentations to fit their "enforcer" and "peace keeping occupation" assigements.........

Guess moderation is necessary, especially with mechanical augs.

Nano all the way.

Mechanical parts eventually rust, break or wear through time.

If you have some action figure with mechanical action, i'm sure its not working anymore because of the years.

Oh boy, imagine having to visit the mechanic every two years to fix the Systolic Motivator of your genitals.

On the other side, (we suppose that) the Nano's never wear or break.

If possible i'd augment myself fully. How can you live knowing that you can multiply your combat, sexual and mental potentials?

Hmm, if you can have both it'd be good, the Nanites could repair and maintain the mechanical parts.

Otherwise, I think mechanical. Generally mechanical augs grant new abilities whereas Nanaugs enhance natural abilities, and a mechanical aug malfunctioning is a lot less scary than having your nanites go rogue.

My thoughts exactly. 80-90% of all games become outdated in a matter of years, but Tetris.....perfection.
