Avatar dethrones the Dark Knight in Blu Ray sales

James Cameron's 'Avatar' has set a 1st day sales record in the US beating top notch big dog (and rightfully so) 'The Dark Knight'!

Fox sold 1.5 million units in the USA and Canada alone according to Deadline Hollywood. The tally for 'The Dark Knight' Blu-Ray sales was 600K. Avatar smoked the Batman!

Nikki Finke is complaining that Fox did not send out a press release copy. Nikki, mines in the mail darling, you are more than welcome to come on over and view 'Avatar' with Jman and Johhny:P

Off course this release of Avatar is the 2-D bare bones version, with a beefed up version being released later in 2010 and the 3-D version hitting shelves sometime next year. Were some of you ComicBookMovie fans to credit for the Blu-Ray release of Avatar being successful?

Avatar was alright, but it's not a movie I would ever watch again. James Cameron has made much better movies, ie Terminators 1&2, True LIes, Aliens. The Dark Knight is certainly much better than Avatar as well.

Why do people feel the need to post this stuff?It isn't news,it's life.Records are made to be broken,it doesn't mean you hsve to waste time every time they are,especially when it's something as trivial as DVD sales.

I'll comment if I want to comment,so you might as well buzz off.I just think there's more newsworthy stuff is all.Next year,they'll have some 4d effects driven extravaganza that'll knock Avatar for a loop,and so on,and so forth.So,it's really just a matter of time.Also,don't try and boss me,you're somewhere far away on a computer,so,the way I see it,there isn't much you can do.It seems you like to look for fights,so do us all a favor...don't.

Its not about whats next, its about how the Dark Knight has been dethroned...

Iron Man 2 has a shot, but it's a long one. It is a highly anticipated movie coming off of one of the most successful comic book movies. I mean Iron Man got the same reviews as the Dark Knight and Iron Man is relatively new to the mainstream audience. That's saying something. Even it's run at the box office was great.

I agree with this and hope it gets just as much money/attention as TDK and especially Avatar. Avatar was not good at all.

What does the popularity of the character have to do with review scores? Box-office, yeah, but most reviewers ignore how popular a character is.

I don't think Oscars mean much, but with TDK and Avatar they did.

Avatar ended up having 3 but only for technical achievements. Atleast TDK got 1 for casting reasons plus the audio one. And to be honest Ledger made TDK. Bale was ok, the script was ok, directing was ok... but the new superpopular Joker hit the jackpot

Wondering can the villains in Batman 3 reach the same. Some say Depp should be Riddler and Hoffman should be Penguin but IMO they would probably be too predictable. Hoffman has been a mob boss and Depp has been a flashy, weird, narcisstic lone wolf so many times.

If anything Ironman being a lesser know hero, farther away from the public eye, DRASTICALLY boosted the way it was received by the audience and critics. There wasn't ANYWHERE NEAR the hype or expectations that Batman has. So of course everyone was surprised/impressed when they saw it, including myself.

Same thing with Avatar, if it was a low key movie and wasn't hyped beyond rationality I think people wouldn't be going out of their way to hate it so much. It makes me sad I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't about the story Cameron just wanted people to have an experience and take them to this world, and he succeeded. Happens with LOTS of films, they are just victims of the internet if you ask me.

Consequently due Ironman 1's success Ironman 2's general census has been, and will be, "good but not as good as we hoped." If Ironman 1 was hype to the level of Avatar or Batman most probably would have said "solid enough flic but nothing special about it."
