I hope to buy a new computer by the beginning of next year and wanted to plan ahead so I can know how much it'll cost etc. I've looked about and only found optimal system requirements for current gen, and even though my brother's computer meets them all, the game still runs at 30fps when playing in 1024x768. I wanted to be able to use higher resolutions at a smoother framerate (60fps or more would be ideal, of course) and use next gen effects.
What sort of system requirements are needed for that?

I would be also interested to know what is the best system for playing the game with the optimal performance (Next generation content) since I can't get it running ultra smoothly on 1680 x 1050 resolution (Windows XP Pro SP2, 1.2 Patch) though I have the Intel Core Duo 2 E6850 3 Ghz and Geforce 8800 GTX (latest drivers of course) and 2 GB DDR2 1066 Mhz.
The game runs smoother on 1024 x 768 resolution but I still notice some odd stuttering in some locations, for example, at the very beginning of the game (the aeroplane crash/mountain climb intro and Bolivia level) the stuttering is annoying. How is it possible that the turning 180 degrees may cause serious stuttering but turning 180 degrees more goes without any stuttering. I think the obvious reason is the graphic engine which just sucks. If I can play Far Cry, Fear and Half Life 2 ultra smoothly with maximum settings on 1680 x 1050 I am quite sure that these games have a better graphic engine which is also better optimized than in Tomb Raider Legend. And for god's sake I have the GEFORCE 8800 GTX and it's ridiculous that the game still stutters on high resolution. In addition, I have noticed the next generation content contains a lot of graphic bugs and crashes the game (at the beginning of the Kazakhstan level). Well, I am not surprised why they are not using the next generation content anymore in Tomb Raider Anniversary. |

Optimal system requirements are: Pentium 4 3.0Ghz or Athlon XP/64bit Equivalent, 1GB RAM, 100% DirectX 9.0c -compatible 512MB 3D Accelerated Card (Nvidia GeForce 7800 / Ati X-1800).

Thank you, but like I said, my brother's computers meets all of those and only runs current gen properly. Activating next gen at 1024x760 makes the game run at 3-5fps, ie, totally unplayable.
I need the actual data for next gen.

I think you probably need a physics card to get the next generation content to work. I don't know much about them, but I think they work along side with your graphics card making in game graphics better.

I wouldn't listen to everything you hear from tombraiderchronicles.com. Next-gen mode performs/displays great with a geforce 7600 with 256MB VRAM at lower resolutions.

To Virtual Surfer:
I have similar problems with stuttering when activating next-gen content and have even posted my own thread dedicated to resolving the issue with it. I have a GeForce 8800 Ultra (not Sli) with 3 gigabytes of RAM and an Intel Pentium D processor, yet I still get framerates as low as 15 at times. However, the interesting thing is that another person said they played the game with maximum settings on a GeForce 7600, as mentioned above, without stuttering. I have also heard that physics cards actually lower frame rates even more from certain websites and forums. Since I believe we both have similarly high-end systems and I'm guessing you've also tried all of the suggestions and fixes, the problem lies with the game. The latest suggestion I've received is that pc's with more than 2 gigabytes of RAM may experience lagging, and that anti-virus programs exacerbate gameplay issues as well. I've tried the antivirus suggestions, but I probably won't try removing 1 gigabyte of my 3 gigabytes of RAM since you seem to be suffering worse with those configurations. I suggest also trying to set the affinity of the program to use just one processor, and to change the priority to normal if it is not there yet. However, other than that, there are few fixes. To Treeble: I really don't not if any system is really guaranteed to run TRL seamlessly (60 fps+). I do have a question, how did you get it to run at 30 fps, was that the lowest it became? No, seriously, high-end pc's are terrible at this game. Last edited by 135tom; 12-05-2007 at 06:54 PM. |
