Thief Gold - Using the Mouse Wheel?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I scanned through a few pages and the stickies and couldn't find it.

Is it possible to use / bind the mouse wheel in Thief Gold?

I would like to have it set to prev / next weapon but when I click on an action and scroll the wheel (in control config) nothing changes

I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer

As far as I know there is no way to use the scroll wheel in TG without resorting to some rewriting of code.
