Problems with Deus Ex:TC not working?

A couple of weeks ago, I got this bug to play Deus Ex The Conspiracy on the PS2. I didn't even own one at the time, so that made the second console I've bought for a Deus Ex title. The Xbox being the first for IW, but of course. Deus Ex was, and still is, my favorite game of all time, and when I saw that the sequel had been made more with the Xbox in mind, I had to play it on there. Luckily enough, there's been other PC games I've also been wanting to play that also came out for the Xbox (Thief III, especially, another of my favorite series.)

Anyway, I got my PS2 yesterday, along with Deus Ex and a host of other games I ordered used. When I threw DXTC in there and fired up the PS2, I got a message stating that I had to put a PS or PS2 format disc in the drive. After that, I went through the rest of the games I ordered and they all worked just fine. I tried Deus Ex again and it didn't work.

The disc itself didn't look like it had any damage done to it at all, but it just wouldn't play. I ended up ordering a new copy from a private seller on Amazon.com, but I was wondering if this was a problem that others were having with the game. Hopefully it was just my copy.
